When using your lips to stand out, I consider three factors: color, product, and finish. There are so many more diverse products that you don’t always have to stick to the basic lippie. A stained or glossy finish can really emphasize your overall look.
Every time you put on an outfit— every time you wear makeup—you are making a statement. For me, my lips are the last step of my makeup routine. It’s only after the rest of my face is finished that I decide how I want to complete my look. Most days my mood falls into one of two categories. I ask myself, “do I want to look sassy or sweet?”
If I want to look sassy, I opt for lip products that align with being bold and fierce. I like to think of boldness like a strong cup of coffee. Black, no cream, no sugar. The kind whose powerful caffeine kick forces you awake.
Clarins Water Lip Stain is that metaphorical cup of coffee. It’s bold because it’s different. I rarely see anyone with an ombre lip— almost everyone uses a one-toned product. Lip stains are the ideal product to create an ombre effect. The stain is mostly absorbed by the center of your mouth when you apply it. By smacking your lips a couple of times, the stain slowly migrates towards the outer rims of your lips. Thus, creating the ombre effect.
The lip stain is quite subtle after one application. The more coats you add, the more intense the color becomes. I usually apply it 2-3 times to achieve my desired saturation The product slowly builds to naturally accentuate your lip color.
TheWater Lip Stain is aptly named because the product is quite liquidy. I apply it in “drops” by using the applicator to dab it on the center of my lips. My favorite part is that the Water Lip Stain can be combined with other products. My natural lip color is more cool-toned, so my lippies can’t always achieve the results I imagined. By using the Water Lip Stain under other products, I can manipulate the color base of my lips.
If I want to look sweet, I select lip products that have a bit of shine. When I think of being sweet, a cake pops into my mind. Maybe because it reminds me of desserts glossed with sugar? There’s something about a glossy finish that resonates with being innocent and sweet.
TheInstant Light Lip Comfort Oil is playful and hydrating. It even smells yummy! While the colors in the bottle are very saturated, they only provide a hint of color when applied. The Mint bottle won’t appear aqua on your lips. Rather, it just looks like a transparent gloss. I used the Mint as part of my nighttime routine for lip repair.
