Everything You Need To Know About Whether Women Can Use Men’s Shampoo

Most people have been there, you’re enjoying a nice hot shower and want to wash your hair. That’s when you realize you have no shampoo left. If you’re lucky you have two options.

Use the man’s shampoo in the showerGet out of the shower and check your cupboards for another bottle of shampoo

Let’s face it, number two is never an appealing option!

Fortunately, the simple answer to whether women…

Anyone know of some really good conditioner for hair that’s been damaged by bleach?

DIY Honey Shampoo Recipe

• Use only raw honey. Regular honey is processed with damaging levels of heat and is actually cut with corn syrup.  I recommend making it on a “single serving” basis, so just mix up a little bowl of the shampoo before you plan to use it. Here’s the basic ratio, but you can adjust it as desired: 1 Tbs.  raw honey and 3 Tbs. filtered water. If necessary, slightly heat the mixture over very low heat to help dissolve the honey. Yes, this is really watery… that is how it is supposed to be.

• If desired, add a few drops of essential oil. To the mixture above, I add about 2 drops of lavender essential oil, 2 drops of rosemary oil, and 2 drops of carrot seed oil. The essential oils add a light fragrance and also help with any flaky scalp issues. The carrot seed oil, especially, is very nourishing to the hair.

• Wet hair, then massage a few tablespoons of the honey shampoo on the scalp. Massage well to distribute over the scalp. Don’t worry about getting the mixture on the ends of the hair, just the scalp area. Rinse well. No need to follow with any conditioner.

• If desired, you can follow with a DIY apple cider vinegar rise.

Why Wash Hair with Honey Shampoo?

• The pH of the scalp is between 4 and 7, and the pH of honey is about 4. The slightly acidic nature of the honey balances the scalp and fights dandruff.

• Raw honey is naturally antibacterial and antifungal, so honey washing can help treat a bacterial/fungal issues on the scalp.

• Honey won’t strip the scalp and hair of the protective oils. As a result, hair will be less oily over time because the scalp will stop over-comensating with oil production (which happens when shampoos strip the scalp of all oils).

• Honey moisturizes the hair, and, since it doesn’t strip the hair of natural oils, hair will be softer with less frizz.

• You will be able to go longer and longer between washings as your scalps oil production normalizes.

• Honey washing is easy and fast!

A One Stop Shop For Beauty Essentials

I often overlook Poundland as a place to shop for my beauty essentials, mainly because of the failed ‘full face of Poundland makeup’ YouTube videos I’ve seen! It’s never been my first port of call when it comes to buying beauty products. However, I visited one of the stores in my hometown (to pick up snacks, naturally) and stumbled upon some goodies!

The first thing that caught my eye when I…

The nice people at @hellohibar sent me a care package of their eco-friendly plastic-free shampoo & conditioner bars to encourage me to wash my hair. My curls are happy. Thanks HiBar!

Hello! So I bought some new products this month and I love them so I thought I’d do a quick post on it.

1) Herbal Essences Bee Strong Shampoo and Intensive Conditioning Mask

Ok so, I have used Herbal Essences in the past and my old favourite used to be the Beautiful Ends range. however after switching to L'oreal Elvive for a while and then coming back to it a while later I found it incredibly disappointing, especially the Intensive Mask (I always use these instead of conditioners), it was so thin I used it all in no time at all and really didn’t feel like a mask. Due to monetary issues when buying some new stuff I noticed the Bee Strong range was on offer and thought I would give it a try and I love it!. It smells fantastic, first time I used I actually had a proper “Herbal Essences moment” like they show in the ads. Its a sort of sweet tropical smell, honey and pineapple like.  I actually sit and smell my hair all the time now (yes it is as weird as it sounds but its so nice!). The mask has a good thick texture so you really don’t need much. It leaves my hair feeling soft and shiny and not weighed down like some products for damaged hair do. Overall 5/5.

2)L'oreal Skin Perfection Cleansing Milk and Day Moisturiser

To start with the Cleansing Milk: it promises to remove make up and impurities and reveal silky hydrated skin. I find it take quite alot of product and cotton wool to satisfactorily remove my make up which is a downside as it is slow and feels wasteful. However I have never used a milk cleanser before, being a fan of facewashs but moving away from my soft water home to the harsh hard water of Brighton was a nightmare for my skin so I had to change my routine. The milk is definately gentle and didn’t sting my dry skin at all and as it promised to made it feel hydrated and smooth. Most amazingly it didn’t break me out which I was certain would happen due to the weight of the product and my uncertainty of how much make up was really coming off. It really feels like its protecting and helping your skin. Sometimes I put this on before I have a shower and it stops the hard water drying out my skin so much. My only downside apart from the amount of product you have to use is that it can be a bit oily on the Tzone before you put on make up. 4/5

The Correcting Day Moisturiser: promises to tighten pores and improve skins texture. Amazingly I find that it actually does these things! It feels lovely on and makes make up go on like a dream. This isn’t surprising as the cream contains Silica, most commonly found in primers. This does make me a little hesitant about using it as a night cream as well. I’m still unsure about how it sits with my sensitive skin, at first I was convinced I was allergic to the chemical composition but it seems to be ok now my skin has healed a bit more. It is moisturising but I do have to use another intensive moisturiser as well. Over all good but I bought it on offer and not convinced I would repurchase at full price. 3.75/5

3) Models Own Nail Polish in Ice Neon- Pukka Purple-

I absolutely love this colour! I have been surprised how long it has taken me to find a bright purple nail polish and finally the search is over. With this I was a little disappointed with the brush which wasn’t as easy to use as some on cheaper polishes. It is seeming fairly chip resistant, however its about on a par with my Sinful Colours ones which cost £1.99. What I will say as it only needs a couple of coats for a really thick good coverage. Despite being unsure of the cost for the price I will still give this 5/5 as so in love with it.

4) L'oreal Nude Magique BB Powder

This is another product that I am in love with. Unlike the packaging the powder itself is not white, just a very light skin colour (mine is for light skin so go figure). It promises to give skin a velvety texture and it does just that, it seems to improve the look of make up without compromising the colour and has the perfect level of matte with luminosity when used with my Lumi Magique foundation. I have never used a pressed powder that feels so nice on the skin or so finely milled. 5/5 and definite repurchase, catch it now in Boots on an introductory offer!

5) Bourjois Happy Light Matte Serum Primer

This is another product I got on a great introductory offer at Boots and first saw in Glamour Magazine. I have never used a serum primer before so really didn’t know what to expect. I was tied between the Luminous skin primer and the Matte because I was worried that the matte one may dry out my skin but I opted for it anyway because as I said above the L'oreal Cleansing Milk made my tzone oily. Firstly it is actually acceptable to use with dry skin despite the slightly alcoholic smell of the liquid. It definitely does provide a great airbrushed look, much more so than other clear silica primers I have used in the past, it also holds my make up on so it lasts all day with much less settling into fine lines than I have experienced before. So all pluses there. However I find it quite difficult to use as when layering silica products (like my moisturiser above) it tends to ball up really badly which is a massive pain in the arse. This means I have to put my moisturiser on far in advance and be very careful to be gentle and pat the serum into my skin rather than any rubbing motion. Same again when apply my foundation, once the serum has sunk in it mattified my foundation so quickly that was also a bit difficult to blend. This does really work and looks so lovely with liquid and mineral foundation (which its much easier to use with) but it does take extra time and practice. If you consider purchasing it I would maybe check your moisturiser and foundation for silica so that you don’t have any disasters. 3.5/5 but would repurchase.

Avocado Co-Wash Bar Review

So a little while back I purchased the Avocado Co-Wash Conditioner Bar from Lush. When I was finally rid of all of my bottled conditioner, I was super excited to try it, but it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. But don’t let that discourage you from trying this bar! Here are the details on it:

  • Form:I read somewhere that since this is a co-wash it is 80%  conditioner and 20% shampoo so this bar had a little bit of lather, but not much (after all, what conditioner lathers?). Bonus: this is a co-wash so you don’t technically need to use shampoo any longer which saves you money. It looks exactly like the above picture and is sliced like a piece of cake. The green is a little soft if you press on it, and gets softer when wet while the red, as far as I could tell, is wax which doesn’t melt away unless you spend ages rubbing it between your hands. This is probably to help it hold up better in the shower. This bar is made primarily of natural ingredients, although it does contain some ‘safe synthetics’ including sulfates and fragrance. The full list of ingredients can be found on the product page of Lush, and you can click on any ingredient you’re not familiar with to learn more about what it is and why they use it.
  • Price vs Amount: I paid $11 for 0.16 pounds which is basically a palm sized piece on the smaller side. If your hair is half as thick as mine, I wouldn’t imagine you having any problems using it for a good while.
  • Fragrance:This smells exactly like Pez. Personally, I absolutely loved it because I came to terms long ago that anything I used for my hair would smell like coconuts. The smell was very strong, my sister could smell it from downstairs while I was showering upstairs and I could still catch the smell on my hair two days later.
  • Packaging: When I purchased this, it came wrapped in 100% recyclable/biodegradable paper with a paper price sticker.
  • Use: At first, I tried using this to aid in brushing through my hair like I normally do with conditioner but I didn’t feel like it was working the best it could, so I switched to brushing my hair without it and letting it soak on my hair while I finished the rest of my shower. This worked better so I continued like this for about a week. At that point, however, I couldn’t deny that my hair wasn’t getting as much moisture as it needs so I used the whole remaining half of the bar all at once to see if maybe I just wasn’t using enough. It was better than when I was using reasonable portions but it still didn’t hydrate my hair like I was hoping

Overall, if you’re looking for a conditioner bar and don’t mind strong smells I would definitely recommend giving this one a try. My review may not sound all that favorable for how well it actually worked but keep in mind that my hair needs a LOT of moisture. It’s super thick with 3C/4A type curls. When I wear it down, it’s pretty much an afro. I’ve always gone for things formulated specifically for curly hair because anything else, even if it contains coconut (like the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration duo) it just doesn’t do it for my hair. I could tell the bar was trying, so if my hair wasn’t so thick, I think it would’ve worked amazingly. Other girls I’ve talked to that have tried this absolutely love it, and their hair is still thick and wavy. If you want to try this, head into Lush and ask for a sample! They’re usually pretty open about letting customers try products before purchasing them. If you do decide to go ahead and purchase this but don’t like it, Lush is also generally pretty forgiving and will let you return it to them, even used.

Best shaving cream ever? After years of shaving and having to deal with horrible regrowth just a few hours later, i tried this out as a shaving cream the previous day and i have to say my hair started growing back only a full day later and muchmuch softer. Skin is immdiately softer as well. Amazingggg.

Try it out yourself!

Ever since I joined the Unicorn Club with my gray locks, I have become more particular about the products that I use on my hair. Long gone are the days when any shampoo would suffice. Now, I check for ingredients and read about the benefits of each product before purchasing. I love trying new and innovative hair products. Pantene’s Charcoal Collection is just that. The Charcoal Collection is what you never knew existed, but you definitely need.

image

When I think of the average shampoo and conditioner duo, two adjectives come to mind: white and aromatic. Charcoal does not cross my mind, until now. The Pantene Charcoal Collection is not your average shampoo and conditioner duo. As the name suggests, charcoal is an active ingredient in this collection. The charcoal system elevates this hair product line with a blend of pro-vitamin B5, activated charcoal, and antioxidants.

I’m familiar with a variety of charcoal-activated products: face masks, toothpaste, face wash, even lemonade. It only makes sense that charcoal can be utilized in hair products too!

image

Charcoal works its magic by detoxifying and purifying impurities present in your body and skin. The charcoal blend detoxes both your hair and scalp. It attracts impurities and releases antioxidants, meaning the freshness lasts longer between washes. Usually, my scalp becomes oily the next day. When I use the Charcoal Collection Shampoo and Conditioner, my hair doesn’t feel dirty until 3-4 days later. The Charcoal Collection paired with a trusty dry shampoo allows me to wash my hair only once a week!

The charcoal cleans gently and effectively without compromising the health and color of my hair. I’ve also noticed that my hair has more volume and body when I use these products.

My final thought is that charcoal is amazing for body, skin, and hair. Pantene Charcoal Collection is something I didn’t know existed and now I can’t live without. I love how lightweight and clean my hair feels after each wash. The charcoal blend purifies my scalp and hair, resulting in a lasting freshness and weightless volume. If an oily scalp is something that you struggle with or if you want to limit how often you wash your hair, then this shampoo and conditioner duo is for you!

As an added bonus, if you guys buy two Pantene Charcoal Collection products from Target, either online or in-store, you will receive a $5 gift card to spend!

(In some pictures its just the shampoo but know that they also use the matching conditioner with it - I’m just lazy. Also, sticking to things that can be found in Walmart/Dollar Stores because these are mostly 15 y/o with poor time management abilities. XD )
