LIVE

So out of curiosity, wolf anyone be interested in like. A podcast about Tech theatre? Kind of like this post I made forever ago that blew up

[IMAGE ID: tumblr user 5-to-places: You know what I want? I want a show in the Style of The Office, only it follows a production team at a theatre. Have like, an SM, some designers, front of house, an electrician, board ops, a Michael Scott-esque director who has all these big ideas, and actors that would cycle through every half season or at the end of the season. Idk just an idea. END IMAGE ID]

I’m kinda thinking of making it, but in an audio format, maybe framing it in the way of a Stage Manager who records production meetings, mixed in with phone calls and things like that.

This is what I’m thinking:

[IMAGE ID: Discord user Kestrel (They/He): So what I’m thinking is a podcast that follows a Tech crew at a theatre company, and I want it to have sort of SF (Stellar Firma) vibes but it’ll be scripted. It’d mostly focus on tech crew, but there will obviously be a director, a few actors, etc. And the director has sort of Michael Scott vibes in the way of big ideas and no realistic way to achieve them, And the actors of varying degrees of coolness ranging from ‘neat actor who helps out sometimes and generally gets along with tech’ to Actor™️ (trademark emoji).

In terms of Tech characters I for sure want a design team (Scenic, Costume, Lighting, and Sound), a Props Master bc of course, a Tech Director, and maybe some scenic carpenters, stitches, and electricians. And a Stage Manager. END IMAGE ID]

I’m not gonna say its definitely gonna be a thing, but I would love to do it if there’s an interest in it, so like. Let me know in the replies/reblogs!

Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been absent for the past little bit. I’ve been very busy stage managing for a local musical. Luckily I’ve been able to get some reading in, in-between shows. I’ll get back into a regular posting routine ❤️

Finished reading the grisha trilogy in a week. It was amazing, I couldn’t put it down. I would highly recommend it.

I’m going to be doing a series of posts going through my prompt book from the last show I did and explain my process and prompt books in general. I’d love feedback to see if people are interested in seeing more!

One of the most important aspects of the prompt book is the binder itself. I love these rubber binders from Staples because they are very durable which helpful for the amount of time you use the binder during the show. I generally like to keep my blocking script and calling script in the same binder so it’s crucial my binder stays together throughout the process.

I like the white binders, however, they come in a variety of colors and sizes depending on preference and script size. I recommend sizing up in binder size if you’re unsure as I always have more than one copy of the script in the binder as well as the rest of my paperwork.

These binders come with and without an inner pocket, but I like having it as a quick storage space in the binder. If it gets in the way of writing I simply use my clipboard I keep in my SM kit so I find that not to be a problem. I find it super useful to keep binder hole reinforcements so I am always prepared in case a page rips.

My props sheet. I tried something slightly different for this show and I like how it looks. Also we had to cancel On The Razzle due to complicated circumstances so that’s why all of the props are red and not green. But I’m still happy with this so I thought I’d share it with you guys!

Go hug your stage manager… if they’re into that. If not, find some other way to show that you appreciate them.

More Advice to those who wish to one day work in the stage tech profession

Invest in.

a decent pair of work shoes: steel toed, work boot, or really decent sneaker. Just something that won’t get a hole in them within a week.

A Multi-tool. seriously the most asked for item during a work shift.

A c-wrench. never be without your c-wrench. SERIOUSLY attach that shit to your body.

A pair of pants with the maximum number of pockets. (I wear a pair of tactical black pants, it has 8 pockets and I use every single one. it’s magical.)

Good luck on your stage tech endeavors.
