Picture this:
Natasha, through the events of her movie, is losing to the Taskmaster. It doesn’t end up wrapped in a neat little bow; her family dies, and she barely escapes ith her life. Then Steve is calling, and her other family, the remaining Avengers post-snap, need her so she goes. Vormir happens and she dies for the soul stone, as we know. She’s ready to die for her family, and be reunitied with the ones she’s lost. But then she isn’t dead, and she’s waking up in the middle of a battle field with the dust settling, and she sees people in the distance. The Avengers. The dusted ones, too. Tony is on the ground, looking nearly dead and holding the gauntlet. In that moment, she knows what he did. Tony knew that he was going to die anyways, so he thought that he might cover all his bases and bring her back as well. She wants to run to them, to tell them that she’s alive and celebrate their victory. But she doesn’t because she remembers the taskmaster and her fallen family. It’s better if the world thinks she’s dead for now, so she has the upper hand in avenging them. So she takes a knee, sheds some tears for her friend who just sacrificed it all for the fate of the universe, and disappeared.
