I’ve been curious about how bad the movie was, so I finally decided to watch it myself. I don’t hate, but I don’t like it either and here’s why.
The movie is underwhelming at best, but forgettable at worst. Most of the characters are aren’t interesting and some dumb scenes. For example, when Gene and Hi-five ask Jailbreak if princesses can control birds by whistling, she says that it’s a myth, but when they have to get to Textopolis in a hurry, Jailbreak calls for a Twitter bird WITH WHISTLING. The only scene I like is when the bots invade the Just Dance App, it’s was actually more intense than the climax when the phone is about to get deleted, probably because, I don’t care for the emojis. If there’s any scene that made me chuckle is when Gene’s parents are at the fountain, I kinda feel bad for Smiler after the credits, and if there’s anything that I ship would be the devil and the angel emojis, they look like an opposites attract kind of pairing. Gene and Jailbreak are way too boring as a pairing for me, I would rather watch Romeo and Juliet and I don’t like them as a pairing. As for the rest of the characters in the Emoji Movie, almost not one of them got my interest.
It’s not the worst movie I’ve ever watched though, (looking at you X-men Phoenix) but the Emoji Movie has no substance and come off as flat. Normally I do believe that even the worst work can be fixed and be rewritten for the better, but the Emoji Movie might be one of the very very few works that cannot be fixed. I mean using pop culture reference like emojis, how can I? I would rather watch Pixels. What do you guys think?
