Irina’s 23d birthday. Grey morning, later lovely sunshine. Baby has a slight cold. All went out ½ hour in the morning. Olga and I arrange our medicines. Tatiana read spiritual readings. They went out. Tatiana stayed with me and we read: The Book of the prophet Amos and prophet Obadiah. Every morning the commandant comes to our rooms: at last after a week brought eggs again for Baby.
8: Supper. Suddenly Lenka Sednev was fetched to go and see his uncle and flew off -wonder whether it’s true and we shall see the boy back again! Played bezique with N. 10:30 to bed. 15 degrees.

It’s not always easy to find a vein under a patient’s skin, especially if they have a darker complexion. This device, called the VeinViewer, solves that problem with augmented reality.
First, the device scans a patient’s skin using infrared light. By capturing and processing the reflected radiation, it identifies the locations of blood vessels and projects a bright green light onto the surface to highlight the where they are.
The resolution can be set so high that even the valves within veins as small as 0.22mm across can be seen, making finding a site for an injection a little less painful. There’s also promise for its use in the treatment and diagnosis of varicose veins, and aid in transfusions and blood sampling.
Hey everyone- I am very sorry to have to tell you that I /the discourseoftheday blog will be going on hiatus, effective immediately. Will I be back with daily updates, you ask, and if so when? I genuinely have no idea, but I have enjoyed doing the blog a lot so it’s possible. If so I don’t know when though; could be a short time, or a long time, or maybe I’ll return in exactly 18 months just to flex on One Direction. Faith in the future? In the meantime, while the detail of the day roundups are suspended indefinitely, I expect to pop up with the occasional commentary or explainer, and lucky for you all there are loads of hardworking people scouring the internet for content and keeping the regular update accounts running on a daily basis. You’ll be fine, just remember the golden rules of figuring out what’s really going on- click through to the source or check the notes and tags for info, just google things, and if it came from tiktok then no, it isn’t true.
when i’m at work, i try not to use social media or apps too much so i type up stray thoughts in gmail and save them as drafts. there’s something satisfying in doing that. little drafts of emails tucked into a folder addressed to no one. maybe someday i’ll send one, just for someone to read.
i take hiatuses from my writing fairly often. i was on one for the last few months. i leave my art and get distracted by other things for days or weeks or months. sometimes i’m out doing things. living, experiencing. other times, i’m spending time with a different art form or a different hobby. maybe i’m spending more time with my camera, maybe i’m reading, maybe i’m catching up on tv, maybe i’m learning something new. and when i look back and realize i’ve left writing behind, i often get frustrated with myself. why didn’t i just keep doing it? why did i just abandon it like so many times before that? but i have to remind myself, all that time spent doing other things has value. i’m gathering experiences, memories, inspiration, or new skills to come back with when i start writing again. or, maybe whatever is inside me needs to be created in another way. maybe it’s something that can only be expressed through visual art, or through music or through connection with other people. whatever the reason, i’m never abandoning art. i’m always returning after a long journey with something new to say.
