#importance

LIVE

Never let a few words devalue your importance in this world. Without you, it would never be the same. Without you it’s no good. So remember that you are just as important as the president or the most important person you value. Unless you’re Trump, then yeah the world is better off without you.

there was a moment today when I took stock of everything I was feeling - from my congestion to my stomach cramp to the uncertainty weighing down my mind, and I thought: wow, this is a new low. This was my body saying “enough” after months of running it to the ground. I’m waiting to hear from an interview, one that I really put my all into, and one for which I am preemptively mourning my rejection while I also recover from this nasty cold. This one has really knocked me out, and I’ve been in bed all day. I felt good enough to go for a walk at one point and this is when I had that initial thought of feeling so overwhelmingly at the bottom of things. After my walk, during which I sulked a little, let out some throaty groans (I highly recommend vocalizing), and moved my body some, I did feel more resolved.

I’m not sure what it is that shifted in how I feel about the process, because the feeling and the circumstance is the same: I put in my all. But when I started my walk, and for the last week or so, I felt a sort of injustice and even unrequited love toward the world, feeling like I put in my all only to not get anything back. How unfair all of it really is. F*ck meritocracy. Perhaps it was when I acknowledged fully how I was feeling, that I felt a shift. I let myself replay all of my efforts and preparations, I re-experienced some of the minor victories I felt after each stage of the process, and I feel incredibly proud. There is still great satisfaction that I tried my best and that is what matters most.

All this to say, it takes a lot of work to shift one’s perspective in order to take the same observation and circumstance and imbue it with new meaning. I don’t know if I have a new perspective or necessarily want one at the moment. However, placing emphasis on certain things in the observation or experience helps - especially the ones that valorize your effort and integrity. Even if what matters most is feeling proud of my efforts, there’s a little room still for the doubt and confusion and sense of loss. That part is not going away, and is integral to this experience. So if we let ourselves feel all the things, take stock of all the things, then we can assign those things their order of importance.

We have to go through and not around.

Today I checked my water footprint. And the result wasn’t very satisfying. I was counting myself, my mother and my father since we live in one house.

As you can see the standard is for US, and we are European, it doesn’t change a lot, but in the calculator you have to pick a state in US.

My favorite tips for saving water are:

  • use only as much water as you need
  • no needlessly running faucet
  • repair leaky pipes
  • brushing teeth and shaving with the tap turn off (how can it be otherwise?)
  • eat more veggies
  • cook with no more water than it is needed
  • wash fruit and vegetables in a bowl
  • make for own dog food
  • reducing consumption of some foods (mainly meat, alcohol, junk food, animal products…)
  • minimalism - reducing consumption of items (e.g. clothing)
  • shower with a bucket to collect greywater
  • shorter showers
  • don’t flush things in toilets! (even things like tissues and paper towels are really troubling)
  • wash clothes less
  • use washing machine only if it’s full but don’t overload it
  • buy second hand clothing and technological products
  • repair broken things if possible
  • upcycle instead of buying new
  • mow your lawn less
  • plant trees
  • use self-service car washes
  • save energy
  • drive less
  • think before you buy
  • don’t throw out things in good conditions - donate, give away, sell
  • use less disposable items
  • drink tap water if you can
  • recycle

Remember the water is used where we can’t see it. Especially in production of food as:

  • Chocolate – 17,196 litres per 1kg
  • Beef Meat- 15,415 litres per 1kg
  • Sheep Meat – 10,412 litres per 1kg
  • Pork Meat – 5988 litres per 1kg
  • Butter – 5553 litres per 1kg
  • Chicken Meat – 4325 litres per 1kg
  • Cheese – 3178 litres per 1kg
  • Olives – 3025 litres per 1kg
  • Paddy Rice – 2497 litres per 1kg
  • Pasta – 1849 litres per 1kg
  • Bread – 1608 litres per 1kg
  • Pizza – 1239 litres per 1kg
  • Apple – 822 litres per 1kg
  • Banana – 790 litres per 1kg
  • Potatoes – 287 litres per 1kg
  • Milk – 255 litres per 250ml glass
  • Cabbage & Lettuce – 237 litres per 1kg
  • Tomato – 214 litres per 1kg
  • Egg – 196 litres per one 60 gram egg
  • Wine – 109 litres per 250ml glass
  • Beer – 74 litres per 250ml glass
  • Tea – 27 litres per 250ml cup

So many things I love to eat! Mostly chocolate, bananas, pasta, tomatoes and eggs :D

If you have a chance to grow some of the plants, do it! Tomatoes, cabbages, lettuces can be easily grown even in flats ;) I saw some materials on the internet proving it. For example here is a TED about it.

Bread, pasta and pizza also can be made at home but remember you still need products to make it.

And production of items as:

  • Car from 13,737 to 21,926 gallons
  • Leather Shoes - 3,626 gallons
  • Smart phone (mobile) - 3,190 gallons
  • Bed Sheet (cotton) - 2,839 gallons
  • Cotton – 2495 litres per 250g
  • Jeans (cotton) -  2,108 gallons
  • T-shirt (cotton) - 659 gallons

In that case it is an indisputable argument for buying the things second hand, taking care of them, repairing and making sure they will last you for many years. Okay, maybe if it comes to bed sheets we don’t really want to buy it second hand, but that bought this way are usually in very good condition, furthermore you can find unused bed sheets in second hand shops or in an online auctions ;) I buy pre-owned bedding if you want to know ;)

And let’s be honest the top 3 things are very expensive so not many people can afford it new ;)

The climate change is real so let’s slow it down. Let’s fight it. All of us have so much to change in our lifestyles and our actions matter!

So earlier today, I just felt the need to let go of everything I ever wished for and just start living and be OPEN to whatever comes. Life must be lived and you just have to go with the flow. I guess what makes our life so hard is our ability to grip on things too hard that it damages us.

I’ve already learned this from Life coaches such as Marie Forleo, such an inspiring woman helping each of us to create the business and life we love. To learn more about Marie Forleo click here to visit her website or better yet click hereto watch here video about the importance of being in the present moment.

Marie was named by Oprah as a thought leader for the next generation and one of Inc’s 500 fastest growing companies of 2014.

One of the living legends, Thich Nhat Hanh (Monk), has also promoted the importance of being in the here and the now ( Click Here to watch his interview with Oprah )–*must WATCH, such a LIFE CHANGING video*

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh is a global spiritual leader, poet and peace activist, revered around the world for his powerful teachings and bestselling writings on mindfulness and peace. He is the man Martin Luther King called “An Apostle of peace and nonviolence.”

Here are the things I’ve learned for a short period of time while living in the present moment.

1. It takes out the WORRY for the FUTURE

Most of us have this fear of what the future holds and it makes you worry if you’re doing the right things to get to where you want to be. By living in the present moment, you tend to forget all of those worries and learn to appreciate things that you have now.
Instead of being scared of what is to come, you feel more open to it. You’re paradigm just shifted turning challenges into opportunities, fear into love, rejection into better choices, etc. This practice helps you to just do what you’re doing without any competition since this is a RACE against yourself after all.

2. Gratitude, Gratitude, Gratitude

Everything around you seems to brighten you up. You just feel so upbeat and blessed with whatever you have and by being grateful you send signals to the universe and IT responds by giving you more things to be grateful for. Isn’t that good news folks?!

3. You breathe more

Conscious breathing or just focusing on your breath flushes everything that’s in your mind. It releases muscle tension and it keeps you relaxed. The plus side to this is that it BOOSTS your metabolism since you put in more oxygen in your blood!! (source:http://www.womensperfectbody.com/fat-loss/lose-weight-by-proper-breathing/)

4. You’re more friendly
You suddenly have this instant connection with everyone and you just see the good in everyone as you walk by. This is just the same as seeing it through the eye of the SOURCE wherein you tend to love and accept yourself and doing likewise to others.

5. It opens doors for a BETTER YOU
With the mind being cleared up with those blocks, it then puts in new ideas in your head that will help you become the person you wish to be in the future. The universe know what you want, it’s that smart not to know it. So leave it all to whoever GOD you believe in and start living, be the best version of you at the very moment.

START LIVING NOW. Forget about those things that you’ve wished for and never worked out. You’re exactly in the right place at the right time, all you have to do is to let go. Be open to whatever happens and react to it in a POSITIVE way. There are things we can never control outside of us so better fix what’s controllable, which is within.

I’ll leave you with these quotes that has resonated within me.

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” - Charles R.
“What you resist, persist. What you fight you get more off” - Carl Jung

Have a good day Dreamers! :)

Wife of dead Hellenic Navy officer, gives birth to their son 13 days after his death, the baby boy has been named after his father, Konstantinos Pananas.

On Thursday 11th of February, 3 officers of the Greek Navy lost their lives in a terrible accident near the isle of Kinaros under planned exercise on helicopter Agusta Bell 12

Copilot of the Helicopter Konstantinos Pananas (center) and Warrant Officer  Eleftherios Evaggelou (right) were the first whose bodies were found , while the body of Pilot Anastasios Evaggelou (left) was found a day later.

13 days after the tragic accident, the wife of Konstantinos Pananas gave birth to their second son, a healthy newborn, the photo was uploaded by her doctor and close family friend as a farewell to his deceased friend.

“ Τοday I got a daughter, and a hero grandson, Marianna and your newborn son. Commander Constantine Pananas, my friend Kostas, allow me an also mere mortal … your trips were not recreational journeys, but journeys of faith to the task you sworn…journeys in the vast Hellenic blue.. they were journeys of an eagle above the aegean to protect us! Your long trips to the Hellenic seas brought you closer to us, to your Marianna, your Panagiotis and your little newborn hero that I held today in my arms…he will hear about the legend of his father with his friends but he will never have the opportunity to hug you!
Take care of us Commander!
Demetris Kakaletris. “
