When I was growing up, when the flowers first started blooming we would go outside and frolic in them. Most years, that involved holding a buttercup (some people use a dandelion) up to our chins to see the yellow reflection on our chins. The petals are highly reflective, so it makes this beautiful yellow-orange glow. The degree to which it glows is supposed to mean various things, depending on which version of the folk story you grew up hearing – but mostly, if you like butter.

Kinda silly. I don’t need a flower to tell you that I like butter.

But the glow looks pretty and always reminds me of spring.

‘February’ was, alas, not finished in time for Valentine’s Day. Which would’ve made much more sense ‘February’ was, alas, not finished in time for Valentine’s Day. Which would’ve made much more sense

‘February’ was, alas, not finished in time for Valentine’s Day. Which would’ve made much more sense than releasing it at the end of February. Alas, c’est la vie!

I had fun designing those heart-shaped glasses, and they only took me painting them about 8 times before they finally looked right on her. But I’m very happy with how they turned out. I also love the tones and colors of this one and think they’re perfect for February and Valentine’s — what with all the roses and pinks and peaches.

Hope everyone’s Valentine’s day (and February!) went well :)

‘Critical Error’

The evolution of this painting was pretty interesting. It started out as practice for painting planets, but I wanted to add a figure. She was originally going to have an organic life form over her mouth helping her breathe while she floated through space, but I eventually decided to save that idea for another painting with a darker background. So it became the tragedy that it is. Broken helmet, eyes freezing over, trying to get in one shot for who knows what reason before she either succumbs to the harshness of space or gets picked up by a spacecraft that’s perhaps just out of the frame. Who knows. Insert your own story here. :)

Sesshomaru Armor!
I feel like I should still tweak it a bit!

Hehe I got a new gellyroll white gel pen the other day and I really love how opaque the ink is, and it flows super easily!!

Part Two of the time lapse, I drew Lily in a Genshin inspired costume. I’m not the best at detailing, so I tried to make it as whimsical and delicate as the other kinds of outfits in the game. I’ve noticed that a majority of female characters either have a boob window or exposed shoulders, so I went with shoulders this time.

Timelapse feature in Clip Studio is pretty neat

time lapse of ‘Gladiator Megatron’ and ‘Victorion’. (the music is Force, a stunning NCS track by Alan Walker)

Caution-video contains sequences with effects similar to flashing lights (layer visibility toggling sped up). Please do not watch if you’re sensitive to this

(I finally got the dimensions to work… i think?)

This is a 4 ft. x 8 ft. canvas, the biggest painting I’ve ever done. This project was a commission from Kickback, Co., a gaming startup in California.

  • “Unicorn” is a buzz word meaning “a startup company whose value = $1billion+”

This painting took about 50 hours to do, not as long as I thought it would take. I wish I had gotten more footage of when I painted the eye and the snout, but c'est la vie. So here we go! A 50 hour project summarized in a 7 min. video. Oh also, I named him Goliath, which is actually the title of the painting. Goliath (2016) is currently on his way to his new owners in San Francisco.
