Some new miniatures in progress.

I need tiny brushes with fatter grips though, because my fingers are sore. I have rubber grips that I put on my fine etching tools, but the brush handles are too skinny to use them. Problem-solving is in order unless I want carpal tunnel (perpetual threat when you work with your hands).

Here’s my process for the tiny paintings: I paint the scene first. They are largely imaginary, sometimes loosely based on old sketches. Then I drop in the “person” (polygon). Tracing paper helps me get it the right size. For these little guys, I draw the polygons from life: cut and folded bits of gray card stock. I have a jar full of them. You may notice repeat appearances.

SOLD* this painting was developed from my experience spending about 3 weeks in the east coast this summer. I painted a city with the blue ridge mountains as the back drop. And the clouds came from references of pictures I took while I was there! This is the first time I try to picture actual buildings in my paintings what do you guys think?

Sometimes you can’t tell from a time-lapse video that I paint every point of light (city lights and stars) purposefully. I do this mostly to balance the composition. This can be very time consuming, but I believe the end result is worth it! With this painting, I also tried to convey a sense of motion with the clouds. What do you all think?
