I saw the trailer for Stepmom (never watched it) so how about stepdad!Tom

SO in this, Harry and Tom would have attended Hogwarts together but didn’t start talking until after. Tom doesn’t have his canon views in this; he’s just awkward, insecure and kinda angry and lonely but then sometime after Harry and Ginny divorce in their 20s, Harry gets with Tom.

Harry is a single parent to Al and godfather to Teddy

Ginny is still apart of Al’s life although they don’t have a close relationship. She hates Tom and does everything she can to prevent Al (and also Teddy) from getting close to Tom

Meanwhile, it’s actually bothering Tom, although he doesn’t want to admit it. He’d never wanted to get married and have children but Harry’s changed him. He starts to feel paternal feelings for Teddy and Al and tries to bond with them, learning along the way that family doesn’t have to be blood related

THE RISE OF A SUN/FALL OF A STAR SERIES: ship manips

tom riddle and esrom riddle ( née trelawney ) circa 1957

❝It was true that Tom Riddle was conceived under a love potion and thus he would grow up with the inability to love another and it was true that he didn’t love Esrom Trelawney; she didn’t love him either. Their marriage was nothing more than a vow that bonded them together, tied his power to hers and vice versa. But at one point they did love each other, deep down, that was long ago back before their relationship was devastated by Tom Riddle’s perverse need for power and immortality. It was true that Tom Riddle could’ve loved Esrom Trelawney and she could’ve loved him but he loved power more and he would stop it nothing to live forever. It was tragically true that any chance for them to love the other died in nineteen-forty-six alongside Tybalt Riddle. Any chance that Tom Riddle had at becoming the most powerful wizard in the world or becoming immortal had died that day too. It was ironic that the one thing that could have saved Tom Riddle would lead to his downfall. It was true that Tom Riddle and Esrom Trelawney could have loved each other but instead they only ever ended up killing each other in many different ways.❞

Alright so I’m working on my Harry Potter fic, (The Boy with the Unspeakable Name), and I’d like some help/opinions!!

I’m thinking Tom might go to diagon alley in the next chapter (with Snape) and that arises a few situations I’m not sure where to go with.

1. I think I might need to have Tom go by a fake name at some places like that—where they have no idea who might recognize the name.

I could just pick something random for now, but, especially because names are such a big thing with Tom, (especially his own), I’d love it to be one I can come back to throughout the fic, that both is a nice name, and potentially has some symbolic meaning for him.

What names come to mind for you guys? What’s a (at least somewhat normal-sounding) name that he’d like, and could have some symbolic meaning for his character?

2. He’ll need a wand if he’s going to learn magic, and I’m trying to figure out what makes the most sense in this situation.

It’s never explained in the books where his actual wand went, and how he was able to get it back, after the incident with harry as a baby, right? Even if it was, I think Tom’s amnesia rules out finding his old wand, at least at this moment.

But is him just getting a new wand—(disguised of course, so Ollivander doesn’t recognize him)—really make the most sense?

I feel like him receiving Ginny’s wand could be interesting, as Ginny’s soul would cause it to work well for him. But I don’t know that her family would part with such an important thing for this random kid they don’t know…nor how this would come up. Perhaps I could say he stole it from her body? Would him having her wand be fun and interesting or just super creepy??

Should I just have him borrow Snape’s and/or Harry’s wand during the summer, and only receive his own at the end of the summer instead? It might allow for more options (and more thinking time for me to come up with something more interesting). Plus I do think this would add to the idea that this is a trial period. And that they would be more inclined for him not to have his own wand right away to be potentially used for evil when they’re not looking, and that it’s better for him to be reliant on them for a wand in this case (though neither of them would be happy about him borrowing theirs). And it’d make him receiving his own wand much more dramatic, rather than out of necessity.

Is there some fun idea anyone has for his new wand? It doesn’t just have to be about where he gets it, if you have ideas for like the core and stuff or just anything with his wand, send them over!

3.Should Tom get a pet?

And if so, should that pet be a snake? I do think it’d be fun for him and Harry to be able to chat with a snake and both bond with and over it and potentially use it later, but i dunno if the moment Tom’s like “hey yeah I want a snake” Snape would be like “NOPE.”

Or if not a snake, I’m not sure if any other pet would be unique enough to catch his eye. Would he want an owl? A cat? Does the pet store in diagon alley have anything more unique and magical he might like?

Or would Snape just rule out pets entirely? I can’t even really imagine Snape owning an owl (though maybe he does and I forgot) so I think it’s possible he just wouldn’t really allow animals in his house at all (and wouldn’t want to give Tom something he wanted anyways).

Maybe I could have him just find a snake or a fox or something down by the river and kinda just befriend it and decide to adopt it?? Maybe even trying to hide it from Snape?? That could be fun

I’m just kind of wondering if him getting a pet is like a “YESSS GIVE HIM A PET” or “YES HIM AND HARRY WITH A PET SNAKE”for most people or just kinda whatever XD

4. For the chapter after the next one, should I have Aunt Marge come earlier?

I think it could provide for some very fun interactions, however it sounds like people tend to get bored when I reuse dialogue from the books (which, I would reuse some of her dialogue, but the results would be very different).

Basically I’m asking (potential spoilers for the fic incoming!!) || do you want to read about Snape reacting to what Marge says about Lily? || Or should I just come up with my own original drama with just him and the three Dursley’s?

Thanks!!
