using javascript on tumblr pages – how to ask support for permission
✧ What is happening?
As of early May 2022, you might have gotten this message when trying to save edits on your custom pages or when trying to install new ones:
“Looks like you’re trying to add some Javascript or invalid html to your page. You’ll need to contact Support if you’d like to use Javascript.”
✧ Why is this happening?
Tumblr is preventing potential malicious uses of javascript and decided to ban any form of javascript on your pages, and for now the only way to re-enable it is to “contact Support”.
More info: https://help.tumblr.com/hc/en-us/articles/5869629271319
✧ How to contact support:
Just “contact Support” is vague enough in itself, so here’s a quick guide on what to write in your request to them so you can get approved asap. Please note that it may take some time for them to process your request. This exact method isn’t guaranteed, but here’s what I did that got me approved within a week.
1. Go to https://www.tumblr.com/support
2. In the Category option, choose “Customizing your Tumblr”.
3. In the message box, list out all the blogs you want to use custom pages on. Then, give a brief description of what you use those blogs for. You only need to state the blog names, *not* each of the custom page urls, or the javascript file links. Here’s a template:
(Remember the please & thankyous! Staff are flooded with requests right now so be mindful).
4. Skip the Attachmentpart.
5. For the Relevant Blogoption, pick your main blog (the very first blog you created on your account)
6. For the Account Email, enter the email you use to sign in to Tumblr
7. Complete the Captcha and wait for the tick ✓ to show
8. Click Next.
9. You’ll reach the “Does any of this help?” screen. No, it does not. Scroll to the bottom and click “No, send my thing”.
And done! You’ll receive a confirmation email from staff that they’ve received your request. They will not send you a reply if your blogs have been approved for javascript usage. You need to check your custom pages every few days to see if you can save any edits, or if you can install new ones.
If you want to go through a tag page without manually typing in /tagged/whatever into the url, there is a way to do it with the tumblr search bar. All you have to do is add a hashtag (#) before what you search for, and it will look for the tag only instead of looking for the phrase in the post content. For example, here is what happens when I search for my username, “hendrixrph” (using that as an example because there aren’t many results):
About 7 results, and three of them just mention me without tagging me. On the other hand, this is what I get if I search for “#hendrixrph”:
Those three without the tag were removed. Still doesn’t fix the tag tracking issue, but this may alleviate frustration when you want to look at a tag. It’s a few less characters to type.
Explicit blog update…
I have heard from tumblr and am currently working with them to get my blog marked as safe. This will be great as it will be open to a much wider audience again.
The current sticking point is my avatar picture on here. Although it doesn’t show my nipples it is deemed as adult apparently. I’m seeking clarification as I don’t believe it breaks any content rules. There are no nipples just the top of my breasts.
But I’m really happy that they are willing to discuss it.
Any thoughts?
Marked as Explicit?
My blog has been marked as explicit due to previously posting nude pictures of myself and reblogging nude pictures of others.
I have reluctantly removed the nude content now in an effort to get my blog marked as safe again. I have raised the issue with tumblr and sent several emails about it but nothing has changed and the explicit tag still remains.
Does anyone have any advice on this matter as my blog is now only seen by some limited followers and is not open to the wider world. Also I believe my avatar is also blurred to everyone still (even though it is NOT NSFW).
Any ideas???
are the photoset dash dimensions still 540 / 268, 268 / 177, 178, 177 or did this change sometime this year ? I feel like some of my stuff looks weirdly stretched.
Hey, I’ve been getting SO many asks in the past few weeks from complete strangers, asking me to reblog fundraisers…
I strongly suspect this is because people are noticing a general shift back to tumblr, and they see tumblr as a website ripe for scams based on empathy and identity-based solidarity and so on.
Do not respond to or reblog these fundraisers if you do not know the person (or can’t kind of trace a chain back to someone you do trust). Check their archive (literally take their tumblr url and add /archive to the end) to see if they’ve actually existed on tumblr for a while or are only using this blog recently. The most recent message I got… when I looked at their archive, they had bursts of posts in like two months of 2021, and then this year it was ALL gofundme links. That’s suspicious as hell.
For the record, I will never reblog a fundraiser if I can’t explicitly vouch for the person it’s for, or someone I know well can’t vouch for them. When I reblog a gofundme post or whatever, I swear to god it will be someone I know for certain actually needs some help.
How nice is tumblr when it comes to getting comms
i saved all the gif headers that @jddryder made for me yesterday but the background gifs won’t move anymore after downloading them, not in the preview, not after trying to upload them and i can’t open them in photoshop to change the size or something.
I know we just discussed this on discord but I´ll reblog for anyone who has problems with it. Tumblr changed their gif format to ”gifv”that is why it´s not saving. Here´s how to save them:
- right click and open the headers in a new tab.
- Check if the url says .gif or gifv
- If it´s gifv. just delete the v and then save it normally
That should take care of it!
