Here’s a Valentines day reminder that St Valentine is also the patron saint of beekeepers so if you’re single today you can still celebrate by:
- Buying a bee hotel for your garden
- Making your own bee hotel out of sticks and leaves
- Planting bee friendly flowers. In the winter you can plant clematis, crocus and snowdrops to name a few
- Visitinghere for more ideas and information
Happy Valentines day!
Another year, another thing you didn’t know St Valentine was the patron Saint of: plague
Obviously everyone is suffering from a global pandemic right now but by supporting Unicef we could help deliver 2 billion Covid-19 vaccines and 500 million tests and treatment for health workers and the most high risk people on the planet.
Even small donations help but share if you can’t. Donation and more information in the link here.
Happy Valentine’s day.

Over the course of writing and publishing on Tumblr, I’m very thankful for your boundless support and encouragement. Now my goal in terms of scale has been achieved, it’s time to roll out my biggest dream when I first started this blog. So I have a Tip Jar, and now I’m publicly making an announcement about it!
Since 'read and chill’ is a non-profit blog, all proceeds will go to charity! There are 2 organizations that I really want to contribute to for the first half of 2022:
->30% of your donations will go to UNICEF Vietnam in protecting children’s rights in Vietnam, including education and safety.
->70% of your donations will go to Rethink Mental Illnessforequality, rights, fair treatment, and maximum quality of life for all those affected by mental illness, their carers, family, and friends.
I will transfer your contributions by June 30th, 2022. If you would like to warm my heart AND contribute for donation, please visit my Tip Jar via Ko-fi! Let’s work together for a better world!
P.S. You can help me hone my Math skills by adding a note if you solely want to donate to 1 organization! Suggest other organizations for the second semester of 2022!
Thank you for your support!
'read and chill’s Donation Box is still open! Come and support!

Female genital mutilation or cutting isn’t something anyone likes to talk about. It’s sick, it’s twisted, and it happens to extremely young girls (even girls under age 5). By 2030, it’s estimated that 86 million more young girls are going to experience some form of it. How much longer are we going to ignore this?
Last week, UN official Navi Pillay emphasized the importance of efforts to stop FGM, calling it a “form of gender-based discrimination and violence” and violations to the rights to physical and mental integrity, the right to be free from torture, the rights of the child, the right to health, and the right to life, in some cases. “It generates profoundly damaging, irreversible and life-long physical damage, she added.
Defined as "all procedures involving partial or total removal of the female external genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons,” FGM is practiced, primarily in Africa, for multiple, while illogical, reasons. It is intended to reduce a woman’s sexual desire and protect her virginity, for ‘hygiene,’ or for religious reasons (although FGM predates Islam). The most common reason, though, is that everyone in so-in-so’s village did it, so so-and-so does it to his daughter too.
There’s good news, though: it’s decreasing in prevalence. “But FGM can be eradicated, and there are encouraging signs of this at national, regional and international level,” Pillay said. Many countries have adopted legislation and policies to end it, she continued, and “where laws have been accompanied by culturally sensitive education and public outreach, the practice has declined.” According to the UN, FGM declined 5% between 2005 and 2010.
However, if it continues at it’s 1% decay rate, even by 2074 only half of the current prevalence will be eliminated.
The best way to fight it is with awareness: talk to your family and friends, share stories like this on social media, and be a voice in your community for our sisters across the globe who have been silenced.
Hi there!
Keeley’s birthday is approaching again (10th February) and we would like to continue the tradition of organising a charity campaign for UNICEF on her behalf.
Helping children in need is a matter that is close to her heart. She has supported the organisation since 2012 and has been an ambassador since 2016. So, what better way to make her happy and make a difference than to donate to UNICEF? Especially now when families may need more help than ever all round the world.
Any donation counts and helps to contribute to the cause.
Let’s get together again and show our support to Keeley and the children. Please join us at https://gofund.me/87737d5b
