I will follow some people who reblog this one!

I have said it before and I will say it again, just because you have been marginalized or discriminated against, does not mean you are then allowed to marginalize or discriminate against other people.

Hi guys! Thank you so much for all the support we’ve had regarding this blog and the masterpost. We are really glad to be helping the youtube community in whatever way we can.

Recently it has come to our attention that there are certain people who, in some people’s minds, do not belong on the list. We would like to address these issues now.

Firstly, this masterpost is not a sexual abuse masterpost. This is a masterpost to document people who have been accused of manipulative or problematic behaviour. This is in order to let viewers know about creators actions off screen. We recognise that some cases were isolated incidents or that things have changed but we believe that if a victim of this type of behavior is coming to us with a story to share we should try and share it

Ifone post turned out to be a false claimand the poster comes back to us asking for it to be taken down we will remove a person’s name from the list.We are not the police. Although we try and fact-check as much as possible, it is a very hard task and so we are of the opinion to believe the word of the victim over the word of the potential absuer as, even if things turn out to be false, we did no harm by believing someone who might be in need.

It is at this point that we would like to take the opportunity to say that we get things wrong. And for that we can only apologise. So, please, do not take the masterposts word as gospel. The names of people listed are those who we believe have displayed problematic and manipulative behaviour. It is up to you to read the posts listed and make your own decisions about your own opinions. This is because every case is different and people have different thresholds of tolerance, as it were, to who they will continue to support or not.

We also recognise that, as every case is different, people have an issue with the masterpost not documenting that. So we are working to fix that. Beside every name in the masterpost, there will now be a short ‘label’ summary about what the person being accused has done. (WIP) The post is in chronological order of when we hear about the accusations. We feel that this is the best order to keep it in and we hope the addition of the summary labels will clear certain things up.

On a more personal note, we would like to ask that you keep this discussion to the blog ask box and, if necessary, to the email [email protected]We try and keep the work that we do here separate from our personal lives and find it slightly intruding to get messages about this in our personal inboxes. This blog was created for a reason. We won’t deal with things sent to us personally. The discussion should stay here. It does say this in our FAQ but to reiterate, we never answer questions publicly (unless specifically asked to).

That’s all for this post. Once again, thank you so much for the support and to the other people helping to better the youtube community.

~ Jess and Johanna

I almost never look at the blog but I seem to get an email alert about a question that asks something along these lines every other day so fuck it.

Factor 1: How good looking are you?

Do people stare into your eyes the way ancient mariners looked into a gigantic whirlpool that was dragging them to their inevitable drowning?

Has a Hollywood starlet ever cried in the bathroom after meeting you at a party?

Factor 2: How’s your self esteem?

Can you stand every single aspect of your appearance, personality and speech being criticised by someone who lives half the world away?

This goes doubly for girls, who get the kind of fucked up abuse that would make even a hardened 4chan user vomit onto their laptop.

Factor 3: How much free time and cash do you have?

Do you have the money to sustain a hobby that will take up the same amount of time and a hell of a lot more personal investment than a full time job but offers none of the same returns?

Factor 4: How patient / persistent a person are you?

Can you handle being ignored for possibly years as you build up a bank of videos that will absorb a significant proportion of your time and energy day after day, probably while someone who records their cat taking a dump into their neighbours swimming pool gets millions of views and international media attention?

Factor 5: Can you do something better than everyone with 5000+ plus subscribers does that thing?

There are no new niches, all the niches are colonised; accept it.

Factor 6: Can you cope with being constantly shat on by a faceless corporate entity who’s sole goal concerning YouTube seems to be trying to redesign the website in a way that further undercuts the people who live their lives on it?

Factor 7: The factor to end all factors, do you own a time machine that can transport you back to the years 2006-mid 2009?

Cause otherwise it’s pretty much not gonna happen.

Sometimes it takes a while for the law to catch up with advances in technology and the the changes in culture that accompany those advances.

Especially if those changes only apply to a small percentage of the population.

Like, you know, YouTubers.

Vlogging and driving is something that’s been briefly and occasionally talked about for a couple of years now on road trip videos and in comment sections.

Daily Vloggers

Most of the people who do vlog and drive -at least on a regular basis- are within the spectrum of daily vloggers or people who have a daily vlogger channel in addition to a main channel.

Viewers are often taken along for the ride instead of the vlogger sitting down at the end of the day and recounting their experience. It’s seen as a more interesting way to present the story, saves time and is an aide to those with poor memory for detail.

Texting

If there’s one thing that vlogging and driving is even remotely comparable to it’s driving while texting. Both text based communication and easily portable digital recording devices saw their advent at around the same time.

“I think it’s just as bad as texting, texting has caused many accidents and you see the commercials. I see people, you know they’re driving in their car, holding their camera in their hand over here and I mean they’re looking back at it driving and you’re not focused on the road. what’s going on?”

It’s been argued that if using a recording device while driving were as prevalent as sending a text while driving that it would also be banned.

Speculating about it doesn't really help anyone.

For now at least it’s legal, although anyone using their phone as a camera shouldn’t be too surprised if they get pulled over and the cop isn’t in the mood to learn about new media.

Some YouTuber’s who vlog and drive have adopted dashboard and windshield mounts which much like hands free kits allow the driver to keep both hands on the wheel at all times.

Again, though, a lot still depends on the individual. Someone who constantly glances at the camera is going to be paying less attention than someone who keeps their attention on the road and simply speaks as they drive.

Doing that kind of raises the question of why you’re bothering to do it in the first place. It would seem that producing a video like that would be pretty unentertaining.

Attention

What’s really the issue here is the amount attention that it takes away from the road, something that’s generally unclear and depends on the person doing it.

The driver must both remain focused on the road while engaging their audience. Even if it’s just telling people what you had for breakfast that seems like a bit of a stretch; let alone doing something that requires a large amount of thought.

Anything that takes the drivers attention away from the road is surely a risk. Whether that’s informing your subscribers about a give away or changing the station on your car radio.

Regardless of that risk it seems that vlogging and driving is unlikely to become a legal concern unless it becomes far more widespread or a high profile accident sparks a public outcry.

In the absence of hard data that proves once and for all how dangerous it is, if at all, the debate will continue.

We’ve driven some interesting roads during our time in the Balkans, but this really pushed our van to the limits! Would you believe this was a numbered road on the SatNav? We really need a 4x4 for our next adventure…⁣

Join us in this week’s episode as we leave the snowy wonderland of Mavrovo National Park and attempt to find an alternative route down the mountain. Paved roads really aren’t our thing, so we test out a mixture of snow, mud and low-hanging tree branches on a track that was certainly not designed for minibuses.⁣

Later we make it to the famous Lake Ohrid where we’re treated to another incredible driving road, and a surprise encounter with some wonderfully hospitable locals.⁣

Ever wondered how much it really costs to travel in a van?⁣⠀

We get asked how we afford to travel all the time, so we thought we’d make a little video talking about our budget and how we make an income on the road.⁣⠀

We give you guys a full breakdown about our daily and monthly spends, how we plan for unexpected costs, breakdown cover and insurance, the differing living costs in the countries we’ve visited and some helpful tips about living cheaply.⁣⠀

We also talk about how we make an income both off and on the road, including how we save up for our adventures working jobs back in the UK and how much we make from YouTube.⁣⠀

Living cheaply and exploring the world is what we have been doing for the last four years- low budget travel rewards us with longer trips away and less time saving back in the UK.⁣⠀

Join us as we embark on a journey to reach one of Albania’s most remote villages, nestled within the mysterious Accursed Mountains. ⁣

In this episode we explore the mountainous wilds of Northern Albania. Setting off at sunrise, we struggle with the hostile terrain over four hours of intense hiking, accompanied by our guide, before reaching the small village of Mregu. Cut off from the rest of the country, this village is home to only a handful of residents, lying around 3 hours from the nearest city with no road access.

Here we meet one of the village’s last remaining residents, who welcomes us into her home and shows us her way of life. We learn about the challenges of remote mountain living, how to live entirely self-sufficiently, and about the depopulation of this incredible area as Albania speeds into the 21st century.⁣

We conclude this episode with a stay by the incredible Komani Lake, an intense lightning storm and some crazy driving through the city of Shkodër as we make plans for our final days in Albania.

Join us as we explore Albania’s lesser-known alpine town in the foothills of the famous Accursed Mountains- otherwise known as the Albanian Alps.⁣

In this episode we explore what the town of Puka (Pukë) is all about. One of the highest towns in Albania, there is plenty of breathtaking scenery to absorb, with the Albanian Alps serving as a perfect backdrop to the newly renovated town centre.

Despite its small population, there’s tons to see and do as we highlight by meeting two local guides and budding hoteliers. We explore the stunning surrounding area before meeting with international charity 1 More Tree. Here we learn the importance of sustainable tree planting in areas such as these as well as learning of the devastating effects of an invasive caterpillar species that is plighting Albania.⁣

From here we meet up with Marie Shkjau, owner of Devin Agrotourism farm in the village of Qerret I Madh. Here we discover how traditional living and rural life can be combined with tourism to create a very special experience for anyone lucky enough to venture to this corner of Albania. Good morning, everyone! We hope you’ll join us on this adventure as we experience one of the craziest roads we’ve ever attempted to drive. ⁣

In this episode, we end up on the notorious SH74 road in an attempt to find a scenic route to the historic city of Berat. We’d heard many warnings about this road but wanted to experience it for ourselves, and it turned out to be just as bad as we’d imagined. We’ve only ever had to turn around less than a handful of times, as this was one of them. ⁣

How far will we make it before we say enough is enough? ⁣

Join us as we put our LDV Convoy through it’s paces and push it to the max. Let us know if you’d drive this road in the comments!⁣

After, we visit the city of Gjirokastër and discover the best preserved example of Ottoman history in the Balkans and the birthplace of Albania’s former dictator Enver Hoxha. Here we explore the narrow, winding streets, old Bazaar and attempt to find a non-dodgy garage to get our van repaired.⁣

In this episode we’re back in Albania! It’s been two years since our last visit to this incredible country and we’ve got plenty of exciting adventures awaiting us here. ⁣

We reluctantly left Macedonia, a country that left a permanent imprint on our lives. A country with beautiful rugged mountains and miles of unspoiled nature. A country with the most hospitable and welcoming people we’d encountered. ⁣

However, we were excited too, because Albania had also left these same imprints on our memories from our previous visit there two years ago. ⁣

In this episode we cross the border and arrive at a historic city in the South East of Albania; Korcë. We delve in to local byrek, known to be the best in the country, visit the Old Bazaar and discover a natural beauty spot on the edges of Lake Prespa which requires an incredible off-road drive to get to it. This is not to be missed!⁣

Will the old LDV be up to it? And will Albania live up to our expectations from our first visit?⁣

Would you love Macedonia as much as us? We just can’t get enough of the country, and this video is precisely why!⁣

We begin wild camping on the shores of Lake Prespa, sitting on the corner of three countries in one of the most beautiful locations we’ve ever had the privilege to camp.⁣

Then we head off in search of some abandoned buildings and end up at a former Yugoslavian hotel with a dark secret hiding inside.⁣

Finally we meet up with some super hospitable locals and join them for some Orthodox New Years Celebrations in true Balkan style!⁣

We enjoy pushing our van to its limits, so why not explore some of the most treacherous roads in the mountainous Southern regions of the country of N. Macedonia in this week’s episode of Rusty Roadtrips?⁣

Starting at the top of a hazardous mountain track complete with landslides, snow and ice, we make our way down and head East. We meet a friendly local man who shows us the way to an awesome mountainous area where we camp under the stars with the Greek border and Macedonia’s tallest mountain in sight.⁣

We then head further East, attempting to drive an even more perilous mountain track all in the hope of finding a shortcut to Lake Prespa.⁣
