I love watching shipping vids on youtube of all my favorite thai bl actors. A small part of me was hoping they really liked each other (I am a Y girl after all), but I don’t truly believe the ships. Rather, I feel like the showcasing of physical intimacy and skinship between these actors is an antidote to homophobia. As an American whose culture is so homophobic, it’s so lovely seeing men be close to each other. I love seeing the actors being so fond of each other. I love the phi-nong (big brother-little brother) relationships. I love the Thai concept of taking care of each other. I’m regrettably independent, and for the most part, it works for me, but I do crave intimacy, and I love being able to feel it vicariously thanks to these amazing actors.

Alright though, what a SOFT scene. My friends that was a love scene not a sex scene. The soft smiles, the eye contact, the I-can’t- stop-touching-you caresses… (also the framing and scene blocking was on point)
And once again, the stand out factors in this scene : comfort, consent, reciprocity.

Consent is such a big deal to Lian. Not only does he check in with Kuea multiple times when things start to get intense.
Every time Kuea hesitates he stops, and makes sure he has renewed consent before going any further
He makes it clear that Kuea is safe and he can stop anytime. None of that “you can’t change your mind” nonsense.
After the kitchen scene, he waited for Kuea to initiate before kissing him again.
Remember the CCTV thing? Lian realizing that he didn’t think through the fact that Kuea didn’t know about the cameras and there is a consent issue there. Especially when the shirt comes off and he fixes it immediately.
When Kuea finally tells him what he needs, (to hear how Lian feels) he responds immediately with zero hesitation or deflection.
Communication is so important to our boy Lian and I am sohere for this character.
Never in my life have I seen a s*x scene that… well… hot, frankly, without it feeling raunchy. And damn if they didn’t pull it off in this series.
So many good things, man. The multiple check ins, the conversation in the middle, the enthusiastic consent, the reciprocal nature of the whole scene… not to mention the natural, realistic representation of an affectionate, newly physical relationship.
Fabulous.
Everything else is going to pale in comparison now, isn’t it?
