Last weekend, I went ziplining for the first time in my life. I went tree to tree, climbed over obstacles, and balanced passed elements. If you’ve never done this, you have to try it out if you are at all interested in adventurous activities.

#TrySomethingNew: Climbing new heights at a new height

On my second impromptu trip (aka visa run) I went back to Bandung. Coincidentally my cousin was on her way to the city between the hills with the fam, and so I decided to tag along.

They said they were gonna do the whole obstacle course thing at Bandung Treetop, and I said I’ll come too. Big mistake!!

When we were going to the first obstacle, I allowed this 13-year-oldish looking child go before me and my uncle. He ended up draaaaaagging the whole thing (we only had 2 hours to finish them all!) because he was on the verge of crying and only doing it because of his toxic mother. Instead of letting her kid go when he was crying, she yelled and called him a girl.

I’m gonna end that there, and just let you know that I ended up taking over the kid in between the obstacles and ziplined my way back down to earth. Like a girl that I am.

Nonetheless, my uncle, cousins and I had fun - minus the part where my cousin was too heavy, so he got dragged to the middle of the zipline (lol) and he had to use his hands to reach the end. Poor thing.

It got a little intense for all of us at one point and everyone questioned their ability but there was no way out!! And it was so high up!! I even almost cried. We were also Tarzaning at one point since we had to swing from one point to another.

Safe to say that my uncle beat us all, and that I woke up with super crazy sore thighs the next morning. Yum.

Would I do it again? Maybe. I forgot how enjoyable these are! But definitely bring a jacket. Not so fun ziplining when it’s drizzling and windy in Lembang.

If I had to choose between being invisible or flying, I’d choose the latter. I’ve practically been invisible all my life, and I won’t complain I like it. I’d love to fly, feel the adrenaline rush of falling, take a dive into the air and get back to flying again. I mean of course I don’t want to get bruised in the process, but oh how much do I love the funny feeling in my chest when I face stimulated danger.

I’ve been trying to put my zip-line experience into words for many days now, and nothing seems fit. Now now, it’s not just any zip-line, it’s the world’s longest - 2.8 kms, and one goes tearing through the air at a speed of 160-180 kms/hr. You’re so insignificant and so high up the mountain, helpless and in air. The world below you is so small yet so vast and you can see the terrain all formed up. Above you is the endless sky, if you look up you lose balance, if you look down you lose a bit of your breath.

I have never been so scared yet so ecstatic, both at the same time. I was scared the first 4 seconds after they set me free, once the rush kicked in I had never felt so euphoric. I had never felt so alive. I may sound dramatic but I could feel the happiness coursing through my veins and taking rounds on my fingertips. While the cold air dried my mouth and froze my face, the view below me warmed me up. Yes I had the same view from where I barbecued that day, but nothing beats the view I had while I was flying. I screamed out of euphoria throughout my flight. I screamed as much as I could, at the top of my lungs. I laughed. I felt fearless.
