HE’S HOME TODAY!
Back from the Philippines. It’s been over 2 weeks without him. I know I’m fortunate, some people go much longer without the one they love, but he’s HOME.

We can go back to talking into the night after the streetlight comes on, people watching, making lists of the worst things we’ve ever stepped in, or things we’d tell ourselves in 10 years while sipping Americanos, to making late-night dinners in our tiny black-and-white-tiled kitchen, driving to nowhere in particular to clear our minds of the day, imagining what our future cat will be like, intense pun wars, making each other laugh at the gym with bad Hulk Hogan impressions, catching up on our nerd shows together and moaning when it’s over and we have to wait a whole week for the next episode, trying weird beers (that gingerbread one sucked), planning our next big adventure (Pacific Coast Highway? Japan? Germany?), working out exactly how to get our dream jobs because it WILL happen, falling asleep while hugging, and just being happy.

He’s back.

Yesterday we went to Dongtan to meet our old friend Jongha~ He took us to the most pretty cafe and took a walk on the city wall ~~ ☕☕

On Friday night we got to go to see @americanothemusical via our friend @westinhicks (Thank you!). Definitely an interesting story and the whole team and cast have poured their heart into the production. The new musical ¡Americano! tells the true story of Tony Valdovinos.

¡Americano! is the true and inspiring story of Tony Valdovinos. Growing up in Phoenix, Arizona, Tony is inspired by the events of 9/11 to serve in the Marines. His childhood and high school years are focused on the singular goal of enlisting on his 18th birthday. But when he tries, Tony discovers he is an undocumented immigrant, a Dreamer. With grit, determination, and help from his family and community, Tony discovers a new mission: one that can make history, create more good, and inspire more change than he ever could as a Marine.

Cafe Myriade | My first ever cafe crawling experience

Myriade: a classic, in my opinion. I’ve been to this location many times, however they have opened many other locations since Myriade has become very popular. I’ll be posting a separate review for their location at the Plateau in the near future.

 The first time I came here was the first ever time I ever cafe crawled - about a billion lattes and americanos ago. It was Fall 2015. My high school best friend and I decided pretend we were university students and went to the Myriade next to Guy Concordia. We felt pretty cool, until we got there and we realized just how packed it could get on a Thursday evening…

We both ordered lattes (mine was a pumpkin spice latte) and we were very excited. Being new at this, I even told the barista to do a “latte art design” on my drink (face palm). He was very shocked at my unusual question. I don’t really blame him. The lattes did come out beautiful though; I included the picture above.

They have a few seats inside but a bunch of tables outside. Lucky for us, there was one more place left outside… allowing us to enjoy our drinks in the cold… and the wind. 

Since it was our first time having such gorgeous drinks, we obviously took way too many pictures - probably distracting the actual coffee loving students who were trying to study. Meanwhile, I was content with the fact that my pumpkin spice latte actually tasted like pumpkin (sorry Starbucks).

Now that I actually am a Concordia student, I have to say that I do go here once in a while for a nice americano before my morning classes. There’s honestly nothing better than waking up a few minutes early to come to school some time before class and relax at a coffee shop. There’s something about that morning sunshine in a newly opened cafe, with the smell of fresh coffee filling the whole room. Something about that calming swing melodies swaying in my almost empty mind while sipping a hot cup of coffee. Something about the calm before the chaos of lunch in a very popular cafe. I live for it.

I love how this place has mainly a wooden aesthetic, it gives it a cozy feel. Also, they use 49th Parallel coffee!!! Such a bonus. Favorite beans. Life.

Americano

1 ½ oz Campari

1 ½ oz sweet vermouth

soda water

orange garnish

Fill a highball glass with ice. Add campari and vermouth, and top generously with soda, taking care to not exceed a 1:1:2 ratio. Garnish with an orange slice.
