Every argument for embedded batteries is a facade for charging customers more for the most common phone repair. All other reasoning is dishonest.
Lithium ion batteries are great in their ability to store huge amounts of power in a tiny space, we simply couldn’t have our electronics without them. But! Li batteries lose charging capacity every time they’re used, they wear out, this isn’t something you can avoid it’s just kinda how they work.
Non-replaceable batteries is planned obsolescence, plain and simple. You’ve got a simple part of the device that wears out much faster than the rest of it, which is indicentallya part of the device that’s the most modular and simple to have customers be able to replace themselves (it’s a battery, we had replaceable batteries in phones for years)…it should be as standard that they’re replaceable.
Incientally, if you’re on a windows laptop and you feel like the battery life just isn’t what it used to be, did you know windows has an inbuilt function for testing that? Open the command prompt (windows key + r - type in cmd and hit enter) and type in “powercfg -batteryreport”, hit enter and it’ll create a battery report. It’ll be an html file in the folder your command prompt was set to, where the command prompt is like
C:\users\[your username]>powercfg -batteryreport
That’s your file path, C:\users\username, that’s the folder. Open that in your browser and you’ll be able to see this

As you can see, the design capacity for this battery is 52,260mWh, i.e. what it was built to be able to hold. The current full charge capacity though is 40,690mWh, so at full charge this battery only holds about 78% of what it originally could. This is normal and to be expected, the laptop is refurbished after all. But if you’re finding your old laptop seems to have about 20 minutes of charge in total or something this can be a useful check to see if something is causing the power to run down faster or if your battery itself now can only hold about enough charge to power a TV remote.
Prehistoric Planet is stunning both visually and design wise, and while I wasnt really mind blown by new science stuff (and kinda over the repeat of some dinos episode to episode), it was all worth it for this

this morning I was laying in bed with my cat Pendragon cuddled up next to me on his back. his sister, Ophelia, jumps on the bed and starts licking his head. he’s loving it, puts his head back to expose his neck so she’ll groom there. it was very cute. for about ten seconds. then she bites him on his neck. when he gets free he flips back over and chases her off the bed. ten hours later, he’s waking her up on her perch to lick her head but immediately it turns into a chance to bite her and swat at her because he got bored of the toy I was moving around for him. every goddamn day with these ridiculous creatures in my home.
