In contrast with its dark exterior, the interior of this family house in Xalapa, Mexico, by Mexico City based architects @lopezgonzalezmx is swathed in white plaster and light-toned wood finishes. From ceiling beams and wall panelling to both built-in and free-standing furniture, the extensive use of wood imbues the sparsely decorated rooms with warmth despite the minimalist interior design, as well as complements the verdant views and establishes a conversation with the surrounding landscape. Offering a striking contrast to both the wood-swathed interiors and green-rich vistas, the red-hued window frames provide vibrant accents, much like flowers in a meadow, further grounding the house into its lush setting.

Located in a leafy suburb in Xalapa, a city in east-central Mexico, this family house by Mexico City-based architects @lopezgonzalezmx stands out amid the lush vegetation in its stark form and charcoal hue. Astutely modern in design, conceived as a monolithic cubic volume punctured by an irregular composition of red-framed windows, the house nevertheless harmoniously integrates into its natural setting, courtesy of its rock-like dark exterior and jagged roof line. Inside, a minimalist aesthetic and muted colour palette allows the verdant views to take centre stage while a spacious courtyard and scenic roof terrace further enhance the property’s connection with nature.

Located opposite #Paris’ oldest art school still in operation, the recently opened Hôtel des Académies et des Arts (@hoteldesacademiesetdesarts_) brings back to life Montparnasse’s historic ateliers where artists worked and socialized during the interwar period through the characterful interiors and bespoke furnishings of architecture and interior design studio @lizee_hugot, the murals of French artist Franck Lebraly, and burgeoning collection of paintings, drawings and sketches, as well as an in-house art classes and workshops organized in collaboration with the adjacent Académie de la Grande Chaumiè (@grandechaumiere_officiel) which has been fostering life drawing, painting and sculpting since 1904.

Located in the historic centre of #Shenyang, an expansive metropolis in northeastern China, LOVIVO Gallery stands out against the age-old environs thanks to its futuristic, high tech-inflected interior design. Commissioned by a technology company to design a gallery space and employee lounge within their office building, Shenyang-based architecture practice BAICAI Design have drawn inspiration from the paradigm shifting potential that high-tech companies promise to create a series of spaces that defy expectations. Combining the idea of the matrix with the concepts of infinity, weightlessness and ambiguity, the architects have dematerialised the spatial experience urging visitors to explore the premises and by extension think about the infinite possibilities that the future holds.

Located amid lush, rolling hills sprinkled with forest groves in the outskirts of Campinas, a colonial-era city near Sao Paulo, Brazil, Bela Vista House enjoys, as its name suggests, quite the view. Brazilian practice Bernardes Arquitetura @bernardesarq has taken advantage of the pristine location and designed a house that marvels in its architectural and landscaping scope. The low-slung building, which takes the form of a concrete podium partly built into the hillside with a slender glass pavilion sitting on top, incorporates planted roof sections, gardens and an expansive infinity pool, wholeheartedly embracing the tropical nature in modernist discretion.
