#archive of our own

LIVE

Soooo, I have an Archive Account which features the other fandoms I write for if anyone is interested

elocinnicole AO3

you know for someone who claims that this random fictional character is their “comfort character” you sure do make them suffer a lot

listen I don’t discriminate… friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, enemies to friends to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, as long as it ends in lovers i’m down with it all babey

all that said, i will absolutely be going through the “underage” and “rape/noncon” warnings for every fandom i’m even a little bit connected to (including things i haven’t watched/read but my friends have) and blocking absolutely everyone producing porn under those tags as soon as i find out that feature is actually live. and after i’m done that, if i still have the spoons, i’ll block everyone meeting those criteria from completely unrelated fandoms as well!

technoxenoholic:

ao3 is like “well we’re starting to roll out our blocking and muting features! blocking someone will prevent them with commenting on your works or replying to your comments!”

and i’m just sitting here like. okay. well. let me know when blocking someone will actually prevent them from seeing my works in the first place lmao… allowing them to read my shit but not comment is not good enough when the problem is that i don’t want them reading my works in the first place <3 they’re not entitled to the things i create <3

#smacking my head into a wall #are they. seriously still letting people you’ve blocked access your things…. #do they not grasp what blocking is for

well, here’s what they claim in their recent admin post:

Because applying these concepts to all of the Archive’s numerous and often interconnected features at once would be a massive undertaking, we’re taking a gradual approach that will allow you to block and mute users in some areas while we continue to work on others.

…buuuuut that also comes after this line (emphasis mine):

We’ll be implementing two sets of features to help users curate their own experiences and add a layer of protection against harassment, without making it harder for people to create and interact with content on the Archive:

so while they may be trying to be vague about what the complete scope of their blocking and muting features will eventually do, and it is at least moving in a better direction than “no block feature at all”… i am not getting the impression thus far that they doactually intend to give us the ability to prevent specific people from seeing and reading our works. because they don’t want to “make it harder” for people to interact with content on the archive.

and it’s like… i do want that, actually. i want to make it impossible for nasty people to interact with my content on the archive. at all, ever, even just reading it, even just seeing that it exists. so i’m not especially hopeful that ao3 will be making all of the necessary safety improvements properly, basically.

like, just because proshippers can’t comment on my works on the archive directly because i block them doesn’t actually mean jack-all if they’re still able to see it and screenshot it and share it around to their proshipper friends and mock me for having boundaries that exclude them. and that’s just me setting boundaries for comfort reasons – what about people who are dealing with more actively threatening shit, like internet stalkers?? it’s concerning.
