Summary:
Arthur wants to make a point.
His job as a lawyer for Cobb Architectural Design had led him to places all around the globe and his need for caffeinated beverages has made him visit coffee shops in the strangest places one can imagine. Arthur hasn’t found one he’d call perfect. It’s a challenge, as his job isn’t anymore.
They’re just some bookish white-collar criminals, think Gavin and Nines, surely it’s fine if we get distracted for literally ONE SECOND

I too believe that Arthur is intelligent, absolutely, but I don’t get the way he’s often written as some uber cultured super genius. I think in actuality, he’s so regular, it’s painfully lovely. Remember he kept pronouncing Saito as Say-to and in the van while discussing the Mr. Charles plan he said “yea, because that worked out so good last time” instead of the grammatically correct “worked out so well”.
Meanwhile, Eames is sitting in a gambling den saying things like “anti-monopolistic sentiments” while eating peanuts and showing himself to be deeply intuitive, intelligent and well read. But he’s so often written as some oaf because he makes spelling mistakes (maybe he’s dyslexic — which is unrelated to a person’s intelligence).
I just love this bit in this fic because it’s how I see Arthur too. It’s how I think he was played. Why people insist on this strange “Eames is dumb and Arthur is smart” narrative is confusing to me when the movie doesn’t show that at all.

Please explain that angry Arthur laying down his armor and cheeky Eames laying down his mask for each other is what this entire ship is based on, and they managed to capture it in one amazing drawing.
