penguin sketches my redesigns

thought of riddler as being a decent dad to Oswald’s adopted son and acting kind of fussy and protective to his hench girls to their irritation. Quiz and query are college students instead of domanitrix because it feels like it makes more sense to me that he’d prefer to be around smart to eager to learn people. As for Martin he’s from the Gotham show and I think it would be cute for him to grow up with them to become the next big kingpin when Penguin retires.

penguin and riddler’s relationship here is kind of complicated. They’re always there for each other but that might be all they can really have between them, when there’s so much history.

My version of the characters have a bit of TV Gotham’s influences but isn’t really a one for one for their relationship. Ah the drama.

Got an additional idea. I’ve heard that there was a generation of titans that just got kind of shafted since they’re too young for Dick’s team and too old for Tim’s team, and Jason died. One of them was Rose and the other is Kid devil, Eddie Bloomberg. I don’t know much about the original character but since I’m kind of doing my own take on a lot of things. I’ve got ideas.

Ed is a name hastily given to him for the people of earth to refer to him

His first time visiting earth he was left to be babysat by Zatanna only for her to lose track of him and he ended up in Gotham for a bit, until Bruce called her to pick him up. Thus getting to meet Jason.

Red likes Raven platonically and feels a strange connection and familiarity to her. Raven doesn’t really like him much if at all. She just gets bad vibes from him.

Origin
Blue found Red when he was a little thing and figured he was just an abandoned imp and raised him as his own. As blue was sent out on missions red always felt bad that he was too weak to ever help his dad. One day he spoke with another devil, Neron , who told him that he would grow to have great powers but if he were to ever lost trust in blue, great pain and ruin would fall upon everything and everyone he’d ever love. That was unthinkable to little red so he was happy to get whatever these powers were.

Little did Red know that Neron only took off his seal slightly to free a bit of his own powers. When he got a bit of powers he was able to accompany blue on more of his tasks and take care of himself. As he grew older he learned a bit of the truth about himself, and that Blue was the one to maintain the seals on him. Feeling betrayed by blue he was scared for the future because he now knows the truth that he is destined to become Trigon and bring great pain and ruin upon everything and everyone he’d ever love.

I really love the pairing of Jason Todd and Rose Wilson. Where Rose would be flirty, silly, and spontaneous and Jason is just in awe of her as he soaks it in and lets it give him the confidence to be comfortable with the mask off sometimes.

I think Jason would start off being fascinated with her not knowing he’s already got the slightest bit of a crush developing when he sees her kick ass for the first time. He has a lot of fun following her into trouble and just trails her like a lost puppy.

Rose starts off just hanging around him for the kicks because there’s no one else her age for her to interact with and this mostly stoic mysterious boy seems to like following her around and reacts to her teasing. However eventually she’d come to find him really earnest and cute.

Here Rose is just a big trouble maker with no regards for consequences. While Jason is mentally a clean slate, who’s shy of his appearance and curious of everything.

Some followup to the Lazarus pit headcannon. Jason is severely hurt after the explosion, visibly damaged. So he wears bandages to cover it all until the Lazarus pit heals it all back but he doesn’t have memory of anything before the incident, He finds a neat mask so he doesn’t have to directly look at his bandaged face. It’s kind of a safety blanket during his recovery. He doesn’t remember what he looked like before the Lazarus pit but the green in his eyes is really off putting and the heaviness of the green shows his mental state.

Pretty self indulgent stuff. Lonnie when he’s older and depressed until Jason comes back, then he’s just older and a little stressed. He loves having his best friend but boy is it rough sometimes.

Headcanon? canon? at least in my canon Batman cuts Jason’s throat with a Batarang during their confrontation with the Joker in under the red hood, making him go mute at least until the Lazarus pit heals things up again.

This Lonnie Machin (Anarky) is an optimist at heart always wanting believe the best in people. (a bit of a cinnamon roll) But god does life test him, hell people test him too damn much, including Jason. Though no one is quicker at getting on his nerves than Tim Drake. Lonnie absolutely hates Tim and what he stands for. He doesn’t think there needs to be any more robins after Jason much less have some snobby rich kid pretend to be his friend and lecture him about what’s right and wrong.

Lazarus pit headcanon

I’m thinking of a headcanon that the Lazarus pit not only turns Jason’s eyes from a pretty ocean blue to a striking green but also gives him berserker rage that make his eyes turn a glowy unnatural green. I don’t want the pit to just lower your inhibitions or go “insane”, and a strength of will or character fixes you up, there would a notable difference in demeanor. I want it to make the person go completely bloodthirsty and unstoppable until the pit breaks enough of the hosts bones and the person’s body gives out to exhaustion.I don’t want Lazarus pit madness to be a cop out for why he was Batman’s villain and now gets to be a basic antihero. I want it to be a thing of absolute horror if Jason ever lets it take control. Like when it’s in charge there’s no mercy for himself or anything around him.

I’d imagine that when he’s first brought back to life he can’t control it. So Talia guides him through it only with the experience she’s seen from her father managing himself through it. Jason can’t differentiate friend from foe and breaks a lot of things, both himself and everything around him. Nothing could break him out of the pit’s influence over him when it’s in control other than being on the edge of dying. So no power of love or caging him to reach the “real” Jason, he’ll break his body to free himself and continue wrecking havoc until the pit is satisfied (which it never is).

I just love the idea of Jason Todd (Robin/Red hood) being best friends since childhood with Lonnie Machin (Anarky) living and hanging out in Park Row helping each other survive and get up to schemes. They would just be adorable little troublemakers as kids.

Batman: Red Rogue

I’ve been trying to put together a project to draw my own version of batman comics. With my own headcanons and interpretations and reimagining of Batman’s rogues’ gallery as well as shine some light on my favorite robin Jason Todd.

I’ve got a few ideas like some friends for Jason before he died like Mary Dahl “Babydoll” from batman TAS, where she’s just a young girl whose family is the ventriloquist gang. Lonnie Machin “Anarky” is a street kid who gets into trouble but always has Jason’s back. He has a really nice mom who always encourages him to see the good in people and does her best to take care of him and Jason when Jason is completely orphaned.

Additionally, I’m looking to put some more focus on the other rogues and have them be more street gang/mobster oriented. I’m going to do my best to avoid using the Joker in general.

Riddler and Penguin are somewhat based on their Gotham tv show versions. They’ve known each other for a long time and at this point, Penguin has seen every quirk and idiosyncrasy Riddler has to offer. While Riddler, when he feels like it, always manages to pleasantly surprise Penguin with the information or resources he collects quietly on his own.

Poison ivy is more of a straight-up demon that trades her help for corpses. She eats exclusively meat/human flesh and to witness her feeding feels like something straight out of a horror movie.

Catwoman is as selfish as they come. She steals to have it and puts herself above others. If she helps someone it has to benefit herself in some way too. The only person she’d ever consider working selflessly for is Bruce “Batman” Wayne.

Harley is…well cruel arguably scarier than the joker. She is less female Deadpool with a lesbian romance and more trying to impress joker while letting out her own frustrations with life. No, dig at Harley/Ivy but if I were to do that it would probably be quite a different kind of relationship.

Talia Al Ghul is going to be mostly based on her pre-Morrison character. She loves animals and doesn’t drug Bruce to have her way with him. She’s very sweet and caring of people. Though a bit questionable when she happily gives an excited child a cool sword giving close supervision only to teach him how to wield it properly.

Scarecrow is a nervous wreck of a scientist, specifically a chemist, with emotional support 7ft tall creature made of burlap and straw. People generally avoid him and he’s thankful for it. He hates birds of any kind and enjoys being in the presence of exclusively the creature and books.

I’ll be using the blog to post concepts and sketches alongside finished works of this Batman AU. So feel free to follow if you’d like to see some designs for this project.

Talia Al'Ghul. I love this character or at least her potential. She could be so cool with being Damian’s mother, and possibly Jason’s adoptive mother? I like Jason’s white streak and figured that could be something that just comes with taking a dip in the Lazarus pit. That and the glowing green eyes.

I did a reimagining of a character from batman the animated series, though this one has a couple changes to her. She’s the granddaughter of the ventriloquist with a desire to rule her own criminal empire one day. She’s an adversary Jason Todd robin, being kind of a jerk to him because he’ll always just be some scrappy street kid to her. Though as robin she’s intrigued by him and reluctantly ends up becoming his friend and one of the first members of Robin and the Outlaws. She’s less of an adult woman with the inability to grow up and more of a conniving and unassuming little girl. She’s a bit like penguin in a way. The Ventriloquist is still the ventriloquist taking orders from Scarface.

I thought it would be funny for Riddler to switch to a different kind of riddle when he’s feeling a certain way instead of actually flirt like a normal person. Also Oswald and Ed have been friends for so long that Oswald has gotten to the point of answering the riddle and the question behind the riddle’s answer, and has accepted that this is just Ed’s way of communicating.

Let me know what you guys think of it. I’m too crazy about making sure things have a background and this took a while. This is greatly inspired by Gotham’s portrayal of the two, but aged up a bit.

Is Riddler flirting with Oswald without Ed knowing? Is Oswald just done with his nonsense? Are they already a “Thing”?

i figured for the spoopy season that scarecrow deserves a bit more, I’ll probably still draw some more of the raggedy ass fear monger. let me know what you think. I really like the idea of them being two separate entities to bring a bit of magic into batman, especially since Bruce and Zatanna are good friends. I think it’s also part of my version of batman villains trying to mostly steer away from the ,mental ill = evil criminal, thing that’s just not right. As well as bringing back a little more detective batman being more sympathetic, than he’s been in a while (like since TAS). Jonathan Crane is scared up chemist with a rough childhood, with an insanely tall rag-doll scarecrow creature stuffed with straw, and a fascination with birds.

I really liked gotham so I figured these two belong together, I’ll be drawing more of their shenanigans together in the future. Here is Riddler hanging out at clubs on occasion telling jokes, pretty much everyone in gotham’s villian circle agree that Riddler is funnier than Joker. As for penguin I slimmed him down a little to be more shortish dad bod with a more aristocrat edge. I was thinking that he’s be more intimidating/amusing as he wears heeled shoes to be at a more average height, nobody is really aware of it except for riddler who knows how tall Oswald really is.
