Well I HAD intended to post this this morning, however the little beastie had other plans and the day escaped me. SO, these are my morning thoughts, shared beneath the silvery light o’ the moon.

Over here in California, after a stream of several very summer-esque days, finally the rush of spring is upon us. The tree outside my studio is blooming, its lithe ashy branches spouting the most delicate white flowers - flowers I’m itching to explore and paint. Oh, but time … It moves in drips and gushes, doesn’t it? I cannot believe in a matter of days, my little Pickle will turn 2 months old.

Another possum has snuck into my sketchbook!

This time it’s a leadbeater’s possum, or fairy possum. They’re a special little species that’s very, very old – estimated at 20 million years! Their homelands are in the Highlands where I used to hike, and I’m pretty sure I never had the good luck to see one in person. These little beans are critically endangered, and have been presumed extinct a few times before. Here’s hoping they can hold out against logging with the help of conservationists! They’re also the Fauna Emblem of Victoria

I totally made this for breakfast this morning and then loved it so much I painted it – but forgot that I’m allergic to latex masking fluid (the blue stuff in the third pic) so now I have an itchy arm and face, because I nibble my brush handles sometimes and uggghhhhhh Taters is no help he just sits there

Shiny slippery slithering friends, oh my! I had a fun time sketching amphibians with ink and my new finetec metallic pigments yesterday! Ended up playing with a little salamander-as-dragon design. Salamandragon? I love all amphibians, but there’s just a special place in my heart for the caudata fam

Sorry I haven’t been around a whole lot, my hand is making great progress with the physio exercises and now has three splints to help me recover – but the rest of me is falling apart like a poorly stacked jenga tower and today’s task is to learn how to pop my elbow back in (10/10 do not rec unless you’re a floppybean)
