I’ve been feeling stagnant in my work lately, so I went back and cleaned up an older project with what I know now.  Seeing the changes side by side has helped me realize that I’ve been improving in ways I hadn’t been noticing. The process has helped me get back into a groove after a long creative drought.

If you have a longterm hobby/creative pursuit, I would really recommend trying something like this for yourself! You’ve probably been improving more than you realize.

I’m finally starting to get the hang of using XGen for hair! It’s got a huge learning curve and is mostly broken, but dammit, it gets results! and it’s free

This is for a Victorian era character I’m working on. The hairstyle itself is inspired by Bette Davis in ‘Jezebel’ (1938). I can’t say I loved the movie, but Bette is incredible in it and I would recommend a watch for anybody interested in period costume design.

Spacesuit design! Technically a reupload, but I made the old one before I figured out the whole ‘lighting’ thing.

Design, model, and textures by me.

My friends and I have decided that sometime within the next 30 years, we’re going to make a cyberpunk game. I also wanted to make a character with a whip. So was born: Cyberpunk Balrog.

Design, model, textures, rig, and animation by me.

Jim is a demon that punishes lost souls for crimes of fashion. I swear this started as a stylized anatomy study. It only got weird later.

Here’s the in-class practice model! Our teacher had us follow along as he demonstrated the process, and had us apply what we learned to our homework model. We were left to our own devices as far as clothing/hairstyling/texturing tho.

He came out alright methinks!

Here’s the Turntable Animation for May’s character model.

Here’s a closer look at May’s model.

This is what I’ve been occupying myself with for the past couple of weeks. Currently learning Blender, with the intent to create character models for use in VRChat. This is my first prototype, Zui. They’re flawed in many aspects, but I can’t help but pat myself on the back for a first attempt at this madness.

Still got a long way to go. Almost ready to try and export this sucker into Unity and try wrapping my head around that hot mess. Working on this has physically exhausted me.

The textures are slowly, but surely coming along. Not sure if I’m feeling red skin, but the cooler colours I initially tried definitely weren’t working.

Alright, I think I have the modeling done for her. Hopefully with the textures things will come a bit more clear. The spaulders, and cuisse are fairly self-evident but the leather plackart, and chain pixane kind of get lost using default lambert.

Hopefully I can sell “Cleric” with the textures as well. I’m not really good at designing specific DnD classes it appears. She could be anything.

I guess I’m just glad that managing d20 Simulatorhas got me modeling full characters again.
