Still having fun painting these small battle maps for Dungeons & Dragons. There’s not too much to them, but they make for good practice. I can try to refine a technique or do something new in each one and it’s still fun.

I think I’m going to try and make these weekly paintings a regular thing. Just for fun, I mean I’m sure I’ll learn something but this is just for me. 

Have been doing some painting experiments these past few weekends. I created the “Deinonychus Stencil” first using spray paint and a cardboard stencil. The “Candy Eyes” was largely just brush on canvas. Both are 10x10.

Designed this piece for a Musical themed art show at work. The goal was to create a 12.5 x 12.5 piece to function as the album sleeve for a recording artist’s single. 

I chose the titular track from The Tallest Man on Earth’s “The Wild Hunt.” It’s a lovely album, though in hindsight I probably would have chosen something with more broad appeal or personal meaning.

For the record, I ended up as the Dungeon Master for two weekly campaigns. 

Started learning xGen for work. Still just learning the basics so far, but look at that grass. Good enough to be a snack for a goat, eh?

Stumbled upon an interesting section on TVTropes the other day in regards to character balance in video games. It got me thinking, and I decided to base an experiment on it. She turned out well enough so I share it here.

Have spent the past few weeks learning Illustrator. It sure is nifty for making posters and such. Have been tweeting most of it outhere, but throwing some of it up on this blog.

Poster I made for class this week. It was a simple, but open assignment. Just had to use “Weather” as a theme for the poster. Like pretty much everyone I chose Thunder and/or Lightning, but I’m satisfied with how it turned out.

The textures are slowly, but surely coming along. Not sure if I’m feeling red skin, but the cooler colours I initially tried definitely weren’t working.

Alright, I think I have the modeling done for her. Hopefully with the textures things will come a bit more clear. The spaulders, and cuisse are fairly self-evident but the leather plackart, and chain pixane kind of get lost using default lambert. 

Hopefully I can sell “Cleric” with the textures as well. I’m not really good at designing specific DnD classes it appears. She could be anything. 

I guess I’m just glad that managing d20 Simulatorhas got me modeling full characters again.

My first Gameboy Advance game, textures provided by the existing Cartridge.

Struggled to find a second model to do today so I just made a quick texture and render of “Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land.” 

Just a fun, little project I guess. It was a good game IIRC.

Don’t know if anyone who might follow me here even uses this site anymore, but the show I was working on as a rigger for the better part of last year was finally released a few weeks ago.

I’m super proud to have been a part of the show, it was a wild ride. Wish the series included credits for the YouTube release, but what can you do? Check it out if you’re interested in children’s media.

Over the weekend I participated in the 2019 Global Game Jam, and produced a tabletop role playing game by myself. 

In “S.P.I.C.E: Reunion” players portray characters who are attending a rather large family reunion. Catch up with family, say hi to the in-laws, and stop a Werewolf bloodbath all in the comfort of your family’s ancestral home.

Using the newly created S.P.I.C.E(SOCIAL, PHYSICAL, INTELLECTUAL, COMBATIVE, and EVASIVE) system you’ll primarily roll d12 to determine the results of an action. Every success or failure alters your stats, so sometimes you’ll have to take what the game gives you.

I very much enjoyed the new “She-Ra” series on Netflix.

EDIT: Added another version. The original 12 x 12 record sleeve wasn’t doing it for me so I made an 8.5 x 11 She-Ra.

Have been wanting to do some actual “Graphic Design” for a while now. I’ve previously enjoyed a project to create a cover/jacket for a music single using a randomized palette, so I decided on doing so. 

Re-listened to the “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” Soundtrack recently so I whipped this up in a few hours.

Another batch of acrylics. I think my painting technique is improving faster than my art fundamentals. 

A 12x9 Dungeons and Dragons map.

A few acrylic paintings from the past few days. It’s surprisingly easy to get a small painting going if it’s of a pre-existing figure. 

Hopefully doing these in conjunction with basic fundamental exercises will get me somewhere. 

Two of my more recent Dungeons And Dragons mini maps. I’m still working on getting the mini maps to be both functional for games as well as be visually appealing as art.
