I have two weeks until my concert at my own graduation, where I’ll be playing Chopin’s impromptu op. 36. I started practicing the piece under three months ago and it isn’t even nearly ready, so I will have a painful two weeks ahead of me.
So how did/is it going??
We approach practicing like a mental activity when, in fact, it is at least 50% a physical activity by definition. Try caring for your physical self too after practicing:
- Ice your forearms
- Do PT designed to counteract the overused motions of practicing
- EAT before and after practicing
- SLEEP every night like athletes to
- Naps help practice sessions sink in
- Be careful about overuse through activities that strain the same muscles and joints…i.e. careful how much you type if you’re a pianist. (Looking at you here, Rachelle)
- If you have the privilege of affording it, get regular chiropractic care

Ps. By far, my favourite quote ever
“Everyone you love is gonna die…But, darlin’, so is everything, don’t cry…The stars will blink out one by one in time…And everyone you love is gonna die”
~ The End of Everything ( Noah Cyrus )
Meanwhile Me *hastily* : How do I salvage every second of this precious life ??
I just want to get away from everything. Move to a chalet, somewhere in England. Away from all the drama of society. Reinvent myself. Take on a new identity. Read and write poetry. Go hiking or boating in the lakes of Windermere. And keep listening to *MY* favourite songs on repeat. No one should bother me.
I wish there were an edit option in life like there is in this Tumblr post
Sometimes I think of myself as an immature little ten year old kid.
I mean, I haven’t even lived a quarter of the average human lifespan, yet hither I come, trying to be a part time poet, philosopher, writer, and my own therapist..LOL !

This collection of Chopin’s nocturnes has been my study music since Highschool. I’m close to finishing grad school now and I am still in love with Brigitte Engerer’s performance.
(Yes, I called my headphones Nigel because something that spends so much time with me deserves a name)
There’s nothing more romantic than Michael Jackson sitting at the piano against the sunset and singing Human Nature.
