In my last post I wrote of evidence that children’s creativity has declined over the past two or three decades, a period during which children’s lives, both in and out of school, have become increasingly controlled and regulated by adult authorities. Here, now, is some further evidence that freedom—including freedom from unasked-for evaluation—is an essential element to the blooming of creativity. —

Read more from Peter Gray in Psychology Today

“The results of these experiments were quite consistent.  In experiment after experiment, the participants who made the most creative products were those who did not know that their products would be evaluated. They were the ones just playing, not concerned about judgments or rewards.

"In physically demanding tasks, like lifting heavy weights, and in tedious tasks, like counting beans, we do better when we are being evaluated than when we are not.  But in tasks that require creativity, or new insights, or new learning, we do better when we are not being evaluated—when we are just playing, not stressed, not afraid of failure.”

Recently, our Agri-Food Early Career Committee ran the third #agrifoodbecause Twitter competition. Today we are looking back over the best photos of the 2020 competition, including our winner and runner-up. Entrants were asked to take photos and explain why they loved their work, using the hashtag #agrifoodbecause on Twitter.

Our 2020 winner, Jordan Cuff, Cardiff University, won first prize for his fantastic shot of a ladybird. He received a free SCI student membership and an Amazon voucher.

For the first-time ever we also awarded a runner-up prize to Lauren Hibbert, University of Southampton, for her beautiful root photography. She also received a free SCI student membership and Amazon voucher.

There were also many other fantastic entries!

Once again, it was an incredibly successful online event, with fascinating topics covered.

Hey guys, kind of struggling to keep my excitement in, so sorry if this comes out all dumb, but I’m making charms and stickers?? And they’re going to be adorable and I’m so so excited??
Picture the little bouncy guys you know me for, but cupped in your hands??? Ahh!
I’ve poured literally every spare penny I’ve earned into the tools, parts and packaging, etc. but I need a hand with the final push, and most exciting part - the actual printing and laser cutting. The initial outlay of those is a bit too steep for me to cover on my own, which is why I’m asking for your help over on Kickstarter!

You can get all of the above from the Kickstarter right now, but there’s also some stretch goals to unlock new designs, not to mention the limited edition stuff! There’s the old favourites, there’s revamps, and completely new artwork that’ll I’ll be releasing as animated icons throughout the duration of the campaign. ;u;
If you want to know more or would consider backing, please head over to the Kickstarter page where you can see all the details, see all the perks, and see all the new stuff I have lined up for you guys! www.kickstarter.com/projects/k…

I’ll also be giving away a charm of your choice to one lucky person who reblogs this! Good luck, and thank you!
