Tying Up the Year

The year is coming to close (what!?), and after two months looking at how people have interacted with spirits and their homes, we’re getting tangled up in a different practice. In November and December, Liber Coven will be reading Cord Magic by Brandy Williams.

“Cord magic is one of the easiest and most satisfying ways to make magic.”

We might find ourselves covered in yarn, chord, and shoelaces by the end of the year, but our knots will at least be productive. Join us for all of the twists, turns, and of course knots in this book.

30000-bees-in-a-pointed-hat:

This spell is intended to banish an unwanted person from your life by cutting your ties with them and reclaiming your own energy while also sending theirs back to them.

Put this together for a friend so I thought I’d share. It’s a take on the good ol’ cord cutting ritual with a bit of folk magic woven in for extra oomph. Do not use unless you really truly NEVER want anything to do with this person ever again.

Supplies:

 - 2 Candles of different colors (you can use two black, one black and one white, or two white)

-  A fireproof flat surface like a plate or tray

- A red string of some sort

- Two pieces of paper + Pen

- OR swap the string and candles for a pair of candles with a single wick but that’s much much harder to find.

Steps:

 1. Carve your name onto one candle and the undesired person onto the other using …anything, but a pin needle or knife if you wanna be spicy.

 2. Place the plate down flat, adhere candles (either by sitting them down or melting the bottom a bit and wax sticking them on there)

 3. Tie the red string around each candle, wrapping it a few times around the center.

 4. On one sheet of paper write a wish for yourself, asking the energy you gave or that is being taken to come back to you. On theirs write out what energy belongs to them. List out their spiritual shit that you are leaving on their spirit curb.

 5. Sit and light each candle. Say something or play music if you feel like it but you can do this in silence. While your candle burns down to the cord, light each of your papers with your respective candle (watch your fingers) and let them burn out in the a fire safe plate/surface/whatever below.

 6. Sit and meditate with your candle until the cord has burned to a snap then when you are ready you may leave the candles to burn all the way down but maintain fire safety.

7. This next part is VERY IMPORTANT for this particular version of the spell and what I think adds the oomph: take the ashes from the burned paper and spread them into the winds of a crossroad ( hell, throwing them out your window as you pass over an intersection will do). Then take any solid parts that remained (wax, extra string, unburnt paper), and bury them in the soil of a graveyard, including the plate/surface if you’re hardcore but the plate isn’t required if you just wash it with a charged water or give it a salt rub down.

Unsure of what color cord to use? Match the color with your magical purpose!

WHITE is used for spiritual undertakings and truth

BLACK is used for binding, reversing and protection

RED is used for energy and physical love

PINK is used for pure love, romance and togetherness

GREEN is used for prosperity, fertility, marriage and growth

BLUE is used for healing, wisdom, understanding and peace

ORANGE is used for changing luck, attracting good things and control

YELLOW is used for intellect, imagination, persuasion and concentration

PURPLE is used for permanent changes in life, psychic development, protection and breaking bad luck

WHITE and PURPLE can be used when you are unsure of what color is appropriate for your cord magic

A Cord Cutting/ Burning Spell

I thought I had this posted forever ago but, when someone asked, I saw I didn’t so here we go.

What you need:

  • Paper (any scrap of blank paper is fine)
  • pen or pencil (stick with black for emphasis)
  • cotton cord (red for fate or whatever color that you feel represents who/ what you’re cutting off from you). I used craft cord. Most places sell them in a pack and you got a bunch for all sorts of things.
  • needle that can be used for the cord. I used a metal yarn needle but as long as you can fit your cord through the eye and pierce a couple layers of paper, you’re solid.
  • fire safe vessel
  • matches/ lighter
  • place to do this so no kids/ adults/ animals can cause an accident or get hurt.
  1. Write the name of who/ what you’re cutting from your life on the paper and fold 1-2 times. You could fold more, but you need to be able to do the next step.
  2. Take your threaded needle and run the cord thru the folded paper a couple times. Be random as long as it’s secure and hold the folds together. Cut the excess off.
  3. Place this into the fire safe vessel and you can use whatever words that come to mind or visualize. This part is more for you, the caster, to do based on the situation and who/what is involved. You’ll know it when youre doing all this.
  4. Set the paper on fire and let it burn completely.
  5. Once the ashes are cooled, you can either bury it in soil away from the home, let the wind take the ashes, toss it in moving water or, if you can’t go out for whatever reason, flush it. As long as the ashes go away from your house, you’re done.
