Baryonyx, Jack Mayer Wood, 2020
The cold beating of the water on the rocks is the only sound of the morning, a steady rhythm of heavy crashes and slithering retreats. Baryonyx prowls the edge of the world, seeking fish and crustaceans lost on the rocks or trapped in tide pools. A wave sweeps over its feet, chilling for an instant before it slides back as fast as it came. A fat, short tailed lobster rolls on the pebbles, too long dead to be the dinosaur’s breakfast. Baryonyx leaves the broken, gloppy mass to the flies. Another wave charges, flees, then another. Now a slim body, white as a comet, is left by the foam—a fish, not yet rotten. In a few snaps, the fish is down the dinosaur’s gullet. Another wave moves in, thunders its chorus, and slides away. So it goes until Baryonyx has crossed the length of the beach and moves back into the forests, leaving the waves to speak to themselves.

Parapuzosia seppenradensis, Roman Yevseyev
To be a Parapuzosia means to be a floating reef, an oasis drifting through the desert of blue. A garden blooms on one’s shell, providing nooks and safe places for all manner darting, crawling, feeding, frightened things. Tiny fishes, algae mats, barnacles and families of coral all live in its oblivious benevolence. Parapuzosia is a whole, green world, as ignorant to its inhabitants as the Earth is to its own.

How would it be to flit from these passing peaks of flesh or dodge the hammering hooves, to have the sun eclipsed by moaning, trumpeting monsters whose very breath is loud enough to hurt the ears?

My rarest echinoid fossil to date! It’s a cidarid from the lower Glen rose formation, found North of San Antonio, TX. I don’t have a positive ID just yet, but I’m aware of someone finding a Paracidaris texanus at the same site. To put it’s scarcity into perspective, this is the first one I’ve ever seen and I’ve been fossil hunting in this formation for years. It may be several more years before I find another.

Well I sold out of blue fluorites almost immediately thanks to my last Instagram post blowing up, but for those who missed out I’m going to work on listing a few more later this week. (I’ll share another post here when the listings are up).

Well this is pretty cool, I found a small area on a recent crystal hunt with these crystallized fossil seashells. They’re marine gastropods (sea snails) from the Cretaceous period that have been almost entirely replaced by yellow calcite crystals! More pics and vids to come once I get a few more cleaned up.
