In her ongoing series “Les Temps Modernes” (“Modern Times”), French artist Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard creates elaborate dioramas of everyday life that are populated by human-like figures with fish heads. Each diorama takes up to three months to build. When the diorama is finished, Becker-Echivard purchases fresh fish, decapitates them, and adds them to the scene. The fish bodies are sent to the kitchen, where they become dinner. Becker-Echivard has been working on the series since 1997.
Dan play a bit in the dark with Kozy’s sculptures for new new exhibition, “Growing Into Roots”, before we delivered them to GR2 Gallery. Super fun to imagine the world her bunny primitive sculptures live in - their social structures, their recreation, their rituals, all the oddities, as well as parallels to our own world.
I think we have some similar ideas about the world the characters inhabit, and what they are like, but we don’t discuss it between us too much - the sculptures just exist in our own personal worlds, and we expect each viewer of the exhibition will fill out their own version of the bunny primitive world.

Now that spring is here, you might start to see more crawly critters in the air and on the ground. So let us be the first to ease you into the transition of seasons with the Forest Floor Diorama!
This exhibit combines artistry and education to show a precisely designed cross section of forest soil, enlarged to 24 times its actual size. To create this scene, Museum artists studied specimens under a microscope and made models out of clay, wax, and other materials. For example, the acorn weevil larva is molded wax coated with shellac, petroleum jelly, and a latex-like liquid; the daddy longlegs, balsa wood, and wire. Without decomposers like these to “recycle” dead plant and animal matter that covers the forest floor, plants would starve, and debris would block oxygen.
I have a small collection of these beautiful old bronze buttons and they are great for building scenes upon. All the tiny buildings and many of the other details in the scene have been made by assembling and painting tiny watch parts. I don’t know if they are all visible in the pictures, but there are many tiny details surrounding the town, like a bridge, a pavilion, a well, a watermill and more. The entire scene has been built on a very small area, about less than 2cm or 4/5 of an inch.

This is one of my favorite designs, an entire miniature scene closed in a glass dome ring. The scene includes a town made out of tiny tiny houses, mountains, a lake, the sea, a boat and other microscopic details.
The past week I’ve been working on this miniature that I made for @scrapbramble as a belated birthday present. It has a secret drawer and it folds closed so it can be put away like a book

Fragmented Chronicles is a series of unique handcrafted acrylic rings by accessories designer Shannnam, which captures a miniature world of people and scenes within the clear jewelry. The collection is described as “a glimmer, a touch, a place, a continuity, a dream, captured within suspended streams of consciousness.”
Working on an animated trailer of our next comic book, The Shadow Festival. We use Unity for the complex camera movements in 3D. It’s fun to see our panels brought to life in a more cinematic way!
The different layers displayed in 3D space create a cool sense of depth. We’d love to print them on some thick paper and build little dioramas for real…
