Welp, so much for the prediction that he and Chris could host within a few years as the ultimate Oscars gimmick.

Two genuine apologies and he resigned from the academy. But it’s just not enough for these people.

All his projects are on hold. Deals are on hold. Now he can’t attend the Oscars for ten years.

I’ve never witnessed anyone in Hollywood actually be punished by Hollywood until now.

Just so we’re clear: Jim Carey forcibly kissed a teenage Alicia Silverstone without her consent at an awards show. Was not punished. Adrien Brody forcibly kissed Halle Berry at an award show without her consent. Also was not punished. John Wayne had to be physically held back from attacking Sacheen Littlefeather at the Oscars. Was not punished. Roman Polanski was given an Oscar in abstention because if he came to collect the award in person, he would have been arrested due to his conviction for statutory rape. Was not removed from the academy until 2018. Casey Affleck was given an Oscar shortly after he was accused to sexual harassment. Woody Allen has been nominated and awarded several times by the academy despite allegations of molestation being public since the 1990s.

rupikaur_ ♥️ so many of you have asked what you can do to support the #farmersprotest : slide through for info or read below

1) post on social media to raise awareness. i know this seems small. but it creates a ripple effect that will save lives. i’ve been advised by many human rights organizations that raising awareness on social media is the most effective tactic when dealing with the indian government. they are highly sensitive to international attention- so let’s give it to them.

2) put pressure on your local politicians and those with influence. put pressure on the media. ask them to speak up and bring attention to india’s human rights abuses. when freedom of press is attacked- democracy dies. every statement from officials around the world puts pressure on the indian government to take accountability for their human rights abuses.

3) if you’re interested in donating- @khalsa_aid is a great international humanitarian organization who is helping providing resources to farmers on the ground.

thank you for your endless support family- i love you all ♥️ your thoughtfulness and desire to change the world is forever inspiring

our people started protesting in punjab as early as july 2020. they marched to delhi on nov 27 and have been sleeping on the streets since. punjab- haryana- up- rajasthan. and beyond. the people are united across religion and geography. singing songs of freedom. our people feeding the masses. our people dying. activists abducted. journalists kidnapped. the government is currently building walls of cement and spikes around protest sites to cage people in. they try to defame our heroes. they sexually assault women in police custody. but truth will prevail. all of you. all of us. the diaspora marched and continues to give its heart out. onward. louder. stronger my friends. it’s working ✊✊✊#farmersprotest p.s. i can hear modi crying while throwing a temper tantrum music to my ears !!! So many of these notes are a bunch of self-righteous “the world will keep sucking if you don’t do something” BS and I just wanna scream -

YOU ARE COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT

We *are* doing something. We’re not just sitting home feeling sorry for ourselves. But bad things keep happening, despite all the things we’re doing. So we don’t expect good things to happen. We’d *like* them to happen. We’re *working* to make them happen.

But we sure as hell don’t *expect* them.

In the weeks since the Thai military took power in a coup d’etat, poet Krit Lualamai has been responding to upheavals through drawings and poems. Born in Jombeung, in the Ratchaburi province of central Thailand, Lualamai has published one book of poetry, The End of Their, in 2007.

Some of the images, such as “Tank,” satirize the acceptance of the military’s putsch (the eighteenth attempted since 1932). “Mission Impossible!” speaks to the futility of protest felt by some Thai writers and artists. “Flute to cheer on the coup,” and “Big poet,” prod other writers’ support of the Army’s take-over. “Three Figures of Thai Society” chastises the viewer to consider the legacy of these well-known activists and revolutionaries.

Also included here is one of Lualamai’s poems, “Mission to Imagine,” translated by Puckpan Tipayamontri in 2012.

What? Guess who’s been doing a whole chunk of Oklahoma’s COVID-19 outreach? Have they been doing it on the state’s dime? I didn’t get the impression it was all self-funded, or even mostly.

not to doxx myself but the situation in my country is getting pretty dire.    our eastern border has been at war since 2014,   and now we’re facing the possibility of a full-scale militarised invasion by russian forces.    it’s not a certainty yet,   as we’re still trying to pursue further negotiations and find a way out,   so i’m holding onto hope.    please keep us in your thoughts,   and please read up on the conflict in ukraine   —   the lack of international awareness is fucking appalling

so it’s official.    we’re at risk.    the russian army is conducting military operations,   and i woke up to the news of explosions in several cities all over the country    (   including the capital,   where i live.   )    here’s a google doc detailing how you can help us,   here’s a carrd,   andhere’s a reliable donation fund.    i implore every single one of you to do your part,   because ukrainian lives are at stake

utenas:

for people who are unaware of why the riots in minneapolis started happening, here’s the facts:

  • it wasn’t george floyd’s protesters who started reacting violently; it was the cops.
  • the protest was peaceful until the cops showed up in riot gear, and started using water cannons, followed up by tear gas and rubber bullets. i got videos from friends who were there, of people screaming and running away from the cops shooting the water cannons, rubber bullets and throwing tear gas at them. they were even shooting at the protesters dragging people away to get medical attention.
  • speaking of medical attention, dispatch refusedto provide any medical attention to the protesters. people literally had to drive their bleeding friends to the hospital because they refused to send ambulances.
  • cops are using non-lethal weapons in a lethal way. they shot rubber bullets into people’s heads and injured them. there’s dozens of photos of protesters with bleeding head wounds from the rubber bullets.
  • multiple people used police scanners and heard that there were undercover cops pretending to be violent protesters who were throwing rocks and whatnot at the police, with dozens of eyewitness accounts confirming that information.
  • the person who instigated all the chaos last night (it was a fire at an autozone) with the looting and burning buildings is highly suspected to be an undercover cop pretending to be a protester, because the video of him keeps getting taken down. protesters tried to stop him but couldn’t because he had a hammer and they were scared for their safety.
  • the cops jammed cell phone towers and cut live streams to interrupt broadcasts and to prevent people from seeing what was really going on and who actually started the violence.
  • the cops lied about protesters being armed and about throwing rocks and are literally trying to continue the violence happening and yet no one is holding them accountable for that.
  • and during all this, the cop that murdered george floyd still hasn’t been arrested. he has had more than ten complaints filed against him and was involved in three other civilian shootings in the past. and yet he’s still out free along with his three other buddies involved, probably sitting on his couch while all this chaos is happening.

so don’t get it twisted. the cops just want to change the narrative to make it look like they’re the wounded and righteous party, when they’rethe ones who started reacting violently in the first place and are still acting violently. so don’t you everforget who started this tragedy and murdered someone, and who are continuing to react to the situation with violence.

in the wake of yet another black person being murdered by police, here’s a list of relevant fundraisers and organizations that could use your support right now.

this is specifically a call to action for fellow white people. if you’re white and you’re in any way able to, donate.

  • George Floyd’s memorial fund
  • Minnesota Freedom Fund: “We value a society that values its people, their freedom and recognizes their contribution to the greater good. A society that does not condition pretrial freedom on class or identity, that has ended mass incarceration, and that invests in restorative and transformative justice.”
  • Black Visions Collective, an org that strives to “shape a political home for Black people across Minnesota. We aim to center our work in healing and transformative justice principles, intentionally develop our organizations core DNA to ensure sustainability, and develop Minnesota’s emerging Black leadership to lead powerful campaigns.”
  • Reclaim the Block, which “organizes Minneapolis community and city council members to move money from the police department into other areas of the city’s budget that truly promote community health and safety. We believe health, safety and resiliency exist without police of any kind. We organize around policies that strengthen community-led safety initiatives and reduce reliance on police departments.”
  • Black Lives Matter National

there’s something very weird on this website (and other social media platforms) where people think they can solve geopolitical problems by posting

the more notes this gets the more people seem to think that i’m suggesting people stay ignorant about the war in ukraine. what i’m actually suggesting is 1) following legitimate news sources and journalists will serve you much better than reading/spreading what are likely inaccurate tumblr posts 2) you can’t actually do anything on here to make this situation better 3) you aren’t expected to or obligated to “raise awareness”—not the least bc this isn’t something that can be fixed with awareness. trust me people are plenty aware already if they have even glanced at a newspaper in the last week and if they haven’t they really should not be getting their news on here

Ukraine has a fairly vibrant Jewish community and WUPJ has set up a fund to be spent on individuals and communities to ensure their safety and well-being.

With war always comes a rise in antisemitism.

There’s been donation posts for neo-nazi groups going around so I figured I would share a link specifically for Jewish support. Stay safe y’all

In the end, it wasn’t the might of the city bureaucracy or law enforcement who got the constant blaring of truck horns to stop after more than week of terrorizing downtown Ottawa residents.

It was a 21-year-old resident of Centretown who had simply had enough.

“This situation, quite frankly, really ruffled my feathers,” Zexi Li, the lead plaintiff in a proposed class-action lawsuit told CTV Morning Live on Tuesday. “I really, really felt that no matter what, I had to do something.”

Oh wow, I didn’t know this. I have been hearing her name, but I assumed she was on Ottawa city council or something (I heard the city of Ottawa had started a class action, so I immediately assumed city council, not a regular citizen)

She’s a true hero in this.

Hey Americans, USPS is sending out one (1) package of four (4) free COVID test kits per residential address, you can sign up here: https://special.usps.com/testkits?s=09

Obviously Joseph Robinette thinks everyone lives in single-family homes in nuclear family units & if you are one of the many people whose communal living arrangement looks like “a regular house rented as separate units but not zoned as apartments” or “an illegal basement” or one of the other myriad ways landlords artfully dodge property taxes / avoid dotting the i’s & crossing the t’s of municipal bureaucracy, good luck & godspeed. Please pass this on!

Also fucks over households with multiple generations or several children, but still get your free tests if you can.

They’re apparently working on the apartment building/multiple units at the same street address/PO Box not registering as a residential address thing. Don’t give up.

Ukrainians put together a list of resources on how foreigners can help. There are all reputable organizations doing good work.

Please people be careful and stop just signal boosting because you are desperate to help, one of the groups listed here has neo-nazi ties (armysos has ties to azov battalion)

Not to mention op is literally deactivated and the replies are turned off

This literally just happened, we don’t have nearly enough info or confirmation here. The best thing to do is wait, harsh as it might sound
