The air was thick, causing her lungs to labor as she swung and hacked repeatedly, endlessly. Metal-on-metal sounds cracked and clanged all around in an endless sea of weapons meeting. She could hear each breath echo within the helm like a resounding gong, reminding her of her frailty. She was well past her body’s physical limits and fastly approaching exhaustion. The swords felt heavy in her arms as she gripped them so tightly the blood from her fingers seemed to disappear.
Amidst the chaos in her mind and her reality, something hot– something sharp, smashed into her shoulder with such force that she staggered forward. The pain was dull for a second as the shock from the blow faded. She turned to see an archer with an empty bow only a few yards from her. His face flush as he realized he was momentarily defenseless. “Cowards,” she thought.

Pierre came to me with an interesting concept of a humanoid bat dressed in a tux and i took it and ran with it! I thought about who would personify a bat wearing a suite? Hmm…for some reason Jack the Ripper came to mind. The theory makes sense to me not that any of his victims seem to be exsanguinated but maybe he took the organs to eat them! I think I’m on to something here.

This piece is very heavy because of the lore behind these two. Most stories in the Souls series are depressing and the story of Siegward and the Lonely Giant is no different. It seems the Dark Souls universe is a cruel place for many within but the light of companionship burns ever bright admits the onslaught of darkness. Truly this is a story of friendship and love til the bitter end. Alas there are no fair-weather-friends in Miyazaki’s world.

The intro scene to Demon Souls is one of my favorite cinematics! A Knight presumably Ostrava/Ariona (wearing the Fluted set) is caught in extreme conflict with numerous dreglings and it seems like insurmountable odds are stacked against this lone warrior. I believe it captures the essence of what was to become the epic Souls series perfectly! I’ve always loved the Fluted set as i see some historical accuracy in its design. I took from the opening scene, promo as well as historical references of fluted armor and melded them together. I have to be honest and say the remake of Ostrava and the Dragon god look kind of ridiculous and the proportions seem to be a bit off so i chose to stick with the original designs as references. Thanks again Preston, beyond grateful for your ideas! Would really enjoy doing many more Demon Souls references!

Deep within The Painted World of Ariandel the first ash that ever entered the Painting sits quietly guarding the hidden world (as it rots away)from any flame.
And as i stated in The Unkindled Newsletter- “her boss fight is beautiful and her character design melds well with tattooing because of the religious nature of her esthetic. I always reference/study old Catholic iconography when preparing a Sister Friede piece. That imagery already has weight and energy built on hundreds of years so the relation makes these works almost classic.”

I enjoy every piece i get to tattoo but this one was latent beneath my psyche as in the design process i was bombarded with soooo many thoughts of a scarecrow concept. Finally had the privilege of adding to Trevin’s chest sigil we did years ago! This one posed a unique challenge to not only work around pre-existing tattoos but also to not alienate the pre-existing work. We also were able to incorporate a small cover up within the same piece. Such a fun piece to create and tattoo! I truly appreciate Trevin and all the amazing ideas he brings to me.
