Sorry for not posting lately, but currently my family, my friends, my friend’s family, every family that I do not personally know is at war. They are being bombed, pummelled into the ground, driven to their edge because of centuries old imperialistic wishes of a megalomaniac who knows nothing of peace, and who is willing to pay the price of his desires and ambitions with blood. Blood that people close to me, close to my home, close to my roots are paying. Blood that will forever be on Putin’s hands. Blood that will forever be staining the memories of this year. I don’t know whether things are going to be okay, or when or even if they are - but war is still there. Is being waged, is being fought. It’s being lived. And it’s destroying every single bits of life, of peace, of hope that has ever been part of people that considered Ukraine their little place. Their home. That now is no more. So, I invite you to take this lesson to heart and to donate if you can, to support if you can, to escape if you can; but most of all, I invite you to spread information, to let people know what is going on and to reach those who are power so those who can, might make a difference.
I can no longer silently watch the Kremlin bots spread disinformation about Ukraine and Donbas region in particular. It pisses me off.
As many of my long-time followers know, I am not only Ukrainian, but also originally from Donbas. I lived in Donetsk under the occupation of Russian proxies for 8 years and moved to free Ukraine only a few months ago, before Russia attacked us.
Russian bots are trying to sow doubt in the minds of people from all over the world. They are saying that Ukraine subjected to genocide the people of Donbas. This is the official Kremlin’s agenda and a pretext for invading Ukraine, DON’T BELIEVE THIS LIE.
The only person who carried out the genocide of Ukrainians (including Donbas people) is Putin. Kremlin bots are saying that this issue is “very complex” and intricate. I’ll try to prove to you that this is not true, describing the events from 2014 to 2022 step by step. This is for people who really want to understand what’s going on in Ukraine.
Something I’ve discovered is that self-publishing takes money. While I’ll itemize costs for you at some point, the gist is that everything, from an ISBN to copyright protection to formatting to website hosting (yes there will be a website!), costs. Part of what has made the rollout of The Killing Type take as long as it has is that I am paying these expenses as I can afford them; sometimes that means saving a few hundred dollars at a time for the next part of the project.
I work to support myself. While it would be a privilege to lean on, say, my family for financial support, I simply don’t have that option. Actually, at 26, I’m making slightly more money than the amount my mother made to support us when I was growing up–still not very much. And while I’m happy to work and always have (my first gig was as a 14-year-old at a hipster toy store), my true dream is to be able to devote myself fulltime to writing stories. You know the stuff: stories that are engaging. Stories that feel like a game or a puzzle, somehow intimate because it’s also about the reader. Stories you want to come back to, hopefully. All that love and calamity.
For a long time I was wary of the donation model of income–maybe I just didn’t feel like I had the right to ask.
I’m asking now. While it’s still fairly bare-bones, I decided to create a Ko-fi account. I’m posting this for my nephew Ethan. Censoring his face because my brother was not comfortable of it.
I know everyone here is facing some difficulties. Ethan was diagnosed with VSD PDA with Severe Hypertension and this is for urgent heart surgery. The doctor said that Ethan’s heart was still operable but immediately because the pressure in his lungs is already high.
