Hey folks!
Long time no Drawed. I maintain that Dixie Kong’s original design looks like she walked of the set of the goddamned Cosby Show, so I thought I’d try and modernize her a little. I’m not sure I was entirely successful…she’s like a female Diddy Kong here. I would keep the new shirt (because seriously, who ties their shirt in a knot like that anymore?) and play with hat ideas more. I did give her a sideways hat but…I’m not sure how I feel about that either!

November 21st 1994 - Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country is one of the best games ever released on the Super Nintendo. Surprising since Donkey Kong had traditionally been a villain in Nintendo’s world. He was the first villain, actually, playing foil to Jumpman (later Mario). Though he often cameoed in games, including 1992’s Mario Kart, it wasn’t until Donkey Kong Country that he was the star. The hero. Donkey Kong Country solidified Donkey Kong as one of the premier characters in the Nintendo family.
It would go on to become the second best selling SNES game, moving over 9 Million copies. It was awarded best graphics by GamePro during the 1994 Consumer Electronics Show and Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) awarded it Game of the Year.

I finally beat one of my favorite games from my youth. It’s short?! Anyways, to celebrate I participated in the redraw challenge that someone was hosting on twitter. Here’s the original piece to compare.
I cheated on the background because this was a one day project that I really got into and now its late. I’ll update it if I get around to actually making the background ha ha. For now, enjoy their expressions.

Continuing my Kong quest to re-model the 1990s versions of the DK crew: Here’s Diddy!
The audio is taken from a promotional VHS, and the style of the turntable animation is based on one found on that tape as well.
I decided to try my hand at recreating the technical showcase video used by Nintendo for promotional purposes in the early 90s to show off the state-of-the-art silicon graphics technology for Rare’s reboot of their Donkey Kong franchise.
These days it’s not too hard to find the 3D character models from any modern game available for download online, but Super Nintendo games don’t contain the original model-data for their pre-rendered characters, so the only way to get these models is to replicate them yourself from scratch.
