I just bought these vintage copies of Anchor books with covers illustrated by Edward Gorey.

They. Are. Gorgeous.

I am not adept at taking decent selfies. Have a clear shot of bunnies instead, below. From when I was clearing out my camera roll.

Celebrated by doing more or less the same stuff I do every week:

  • slept in on a Sunday thanks to blackout curtains
  • drank out of an Edward Gorey mug
  • wore last night’s Killstar t-shirt until I bathed behind a Gashycrumb Tinies shower curtain
  • queued a list of male goth characters (check out the female one)
  • listened to dark wave
  • read a murder mystery (A Room Full of Bones)
  • currently watching classic horror (The Pit and the Pendulum) with fam

R.I.P. Dennis and Mary. Wish I could see the Gorey-illustrated edition.

From an old family history sent to me by my great-aunt. Also from the annals: Flora Hazel Markham, b. 1891 in New Brunswick, Canada. She died in 1906 at the age of 15: “She was pushed down by some boys at school and had snow put down her dress and soon after developed the pneumonia that caused her death.”

The Shuar people live in the rainforests and savanna of Ecuador and Peru. One of their religious practices was to preserve the severed heads of their enemies in order to prevent hauntings and control agricultural magic. Shortly after European colonists arrived in the 16th century, Shuar head-harvesting increased to meet Europeans’ demand for grotesque souvenirs.
