docmcarter:

recently i reread all harry potter books and it was just fascinating!
it’s so nice to remember the actions that you forgot, scenes, places, characters ahhh a love these books so much!
soooo I decided to draw harry’s classmates as i imagined them while reading <3

(btw I was always amused how harry never met ALL of his classmates from other houses throughout his studing at hogwarts
like “ok i know only 4 ravenclaw guys…
well then i guess padma has the biggest bedroom in whole hogwarts”)

It really bothers me when I see posts like “not all gryffindors are brave, not all slytherins are evil, not all hufflepuffs are weak, not all ravenclaws are wise” with pictures of Peter Pettigrew, Severus Snape, Cedric Diggory, and Gilderoy Lockhart. These type of posts are incorrect.

They’re not all the defining traits typically associated with the houses. Slytherins would be ambitious, not evil; Hufflepuffs would be loyal, not weak. I really hate seeing posts like that because it’s saying the there are just a few exceptions to Hufflepuffs being weak. Hufflepuffs aren’t weak as a house. It isn’t a weaker house just because they didn’t originally have defining traits (Hufflepuff said she would take the rest and teach them just the same). It’s kinda really insulting to Hufflepuffs.

Also, most of the time they show Cedric Diggory for not being weak. This is ignoring other strong Hufflepuffs in the series, such as Tonks, Ernie, Hannah, and others that stayed behind to fight. I don’t think they’re just showing dead characters because Lockhart isn’t dead.

On a side note, it is also unfair that they’re saying almost all Slytherins are evil. On a general scale, it’s kinda true, but it’s not a defining trait of the house and is a bit rude. Slytherins have meaner tendencies than the other houses, but they shouldn’t say all of them are evil.

It just really pisses me off that the posts are saying that most Hufflepuffs are weak. It’s quite rude and not applicable in many, many situations.

A study in Ernie Macmillan

  • He’s Canadian, attending Hogwarts because his parents found the course of study there to be more rigorous than Ilvermony’s, even if it was a more dangerous environment.
  • As a Hufflepuff, Ernie is always striving to work harder. Muggle drugs like Adderall give him the capacity to study even more than before, even though his hands shake and he sacrifices sleep for several nights at a time.
  • He’s overweight at eleven when he arrives at Hogwarts, and doesn’t slim down like many of his friends do when he hits puberty.
  • His fierce protectiveness of his friends annoyed them occasionally, but Justin at least was self-aware enough to realize that deep in his heart of hearts, he needed Ernie. He and Hannah reciprocate Ernie’s brand of care with calming methods and stress-relief, especially during exam time. He loves them quite a bit more than he lets on.
  • Even though he’s a stellar student and most of his teachers appreciate his work ethic, somehow, Professor McGonagall spends seven years irritated and uncharmed by Ernie’s overzealous personality. She finds him over-the-top and fake.
  • Ernie was one of Pansy Parkinson’s first sexual ventures. They had a heated fling for a few weeks in their sixth year, until Pansy got bored and cast him aside. The result - after the intimate nature of what they had been doing - was a very lonely, very vulnerable Ernie, who relied on his friends much more heavily. Luckily, Justin Finch-Fletchley was around to clean up some of what Pansy had left.
  • Professor Slughorn never invites him to the Slug Club, to Ernie’s constant vexation. If any of the Hufflepuffs deserved a slot, it was him, right? Prefect, 12 OWLs the year before, perfect attendence at every Dumbledore’s Army meeting, a research project in Herbology, not to mention 5 generations of pureblood heritage.
  • Susan, Hannah, and Zach Smith, and Ernie took watch together during long nights under the Carrow reign. They each found their own roles within their watch - Susan was the quiet scout, Hannah was the smooth talker (or occasionally a sobbing manipulator) if they got caught, Zach was on offense, and Ernie could produce a stronger, faster shield charm than even Ginny Weasley. It kept his friends safe more than once.
  • After the war, Ernie works his way up through the Ministry to eventually become the Head of Accounting and Payroll. His meticulous nature is well-suited to the work, and his years of experience with pompous leadership is well suited to being the Department Head. He excels in the position, and keeps the affairs of a shifting system afloat admirably.
