First Man appears to depict the flash burn during launch rehersal that killed the three astronauts, Virgil Grissom, Ed White and Roger B. Chaffee, on January 27, 1967. Footage of the aftermath is shown in the documentary In the Shadow of the Moon.

I will be looking at Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong biopic First Man this week, specifically in relation to movies. That is, documentaries with actual footage or films depicting real space missions.

Above we have a still from the documentary In the Shadow of the Moon of the external camera as the Apollo 11 lander was descending onto the Moon, compared to the version in First Man.
