LIVE

Israel did not exist until 73 years ago when they were a settler colony that took over Palestine and have been violently maintaining their position ever since. If you don’t know this history here is a good primer to get you started: instagram.com/p/CNz9-5tMkso/…

Six Palestinians escaped from one of Israel’s highest security prisons before dawn.

This act of self-liberation is an incredible feat. It dispels the aura of impenetrability around Israel’s surveillance and criminalization systems. It shows other Palestinians, and allies around the world, that even the most (seemingly) technologically-sophisticated occupier is no match for Palestinians who are determined to be free. Anything is possible

The sheer determination of these freed prisoners makes sense when we consider that most of them had been sentenced for life and all have likely been subject to torture and abuse for years. Plus, the Israeli government’s mass incarceration of Palestinians from the West Bank — which is illegal under international law — has had a devastating impact on the Palestinian population at large (swipe left). But today, many of those people are celebrating.”

Free Palestine❤️

[ID: a photo of a tunnel in the ground with the words “Freedom for Palestinian Prisoners” written over it. A few photos of people examining the hole and a shot of an Israeli guard tower on a prison wall overlooking a field follow this.

@fadiquran tweets “But the fact this escape happened under such dire circumstances has millions of Palestinians waking up in awe. The ethos in the street is now: If they can escape from the severest prison in the land & attain freedom, then nothing is impossible.”

Tweets from disorientalist @princessmlohia raad “It’s important to know that Israel’s incarceration of Palestinians from the West Bank is all illegal under international law. Israel has no jurisdiction to be operating prisons on occupied land, or to be extraditing Palestinians across the border into Israel proper.

Still, it does both regularly: so much so that an estimated 20% of the Palestinian population (and 40% of Palestinian men) have seen the inside of Israeli jails. Imagine the destructive impact this has on a community. Every jailed Palestinian is a political prisoner.”

Tweet from @MuhammadSmiry reads “Palestinians celebrate the escape of 6 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails this morning. #Gaza” followed by three pictures of Palestinians gathering with food to celebrate and one more photo of the tunnel.]

bae-guevara:

I couldn’t be happier for the ppl who escaped. They beat US funded, zionist tech with a rusty spoon

seriously, y'all will never know how happy this makes me, and the tunnel is the cherry on top!

they escaped from an Israeli prison by digging a tunnel under a sink in their cell. Some were reportedly serving life after the second Intifada.

the settlers hold over 4,750 Palestinians in its prisons — 500+ without charge/trial, including 200+ children, in many cases w/o charge. but even those charged are charged by a colonial military court with 99% conviction rate…

so even if this is just six people escaping, this is the best middle finger those zionist colonizers get.

again, israeli soldiers have invaded and launched brutal attacks against muslims worshipping inside the al-aqsa mosque - injuring children, women, and elderly with live bullets, tear gas, and grenades at innocent civilians worshipping in peace

every single ramadan this happens. every single year.

for those who aren’t muslim, please understand the significance of the timing and location. the al-aqsa mosque is one of the most holy sites in islam, and it’s currently ramadan, the holiest month of the year. it is intentional.

and this isn’t even getting into how many innocents have been killed since ramadan began, including children, elderly, and a disabled widow who supported her six children, now orphaned

i pray for a day when our holiest sites are respected and protected, and i pray for a day when the oppressed can spend their holiest days in peace and safety. i pray for an end to the occupation and it’s evil.

Really, BBC? a repressive island

certainly, our elder queers would like to remind one colonial power, & her majesty, of centuries-old criminalization of homosexual behavior, leading up to the Wolfenden Report in 1957 — and the decade that followed before passage of the Sexual Offences Act, or…

has the more recent posthumous pardons of Turing & friends absolved your tiny island of any and all past, present & future human rights abuses?

pink-washing isn’t new. it’s been utilized by the israeli government for decades as an example of their ‘progressive’ state. american corporations love to pander to teh gayz with rainbow logos and pride parade sponsorships, yet donate finances to legislators who support & pass discriminatory laws that target minorities.

the mythology of an affluent lgbqti+ community also needs to end. the disparities should be well-documented enough, as should the repeated use of class to divide & disparage communities.

i’m laughing at the terrible click-bait. it’s a poorly framed article, without historical/economic context of international/merkan ‘involvement’, etc. though, from a socio/psych- perspective, it’s interesting to see bbc skirting the phenomenon of humans avoiding the obvious suffering of others.

if only ‘those vapid rich gays’ could realize! privilege of class is not restricted to sexuality.

proposing a new subhead:

corporate media avows objectivity, but can reporters ignore their role in disseminating fascist propaganda?

Well said

The level of evil it is to shoot a Palestinian journalist in the head, falsely claim you didn’t do it, and then send the military to attack her funeral, the mourners, and forcefully rip the Palestinian flag off her coffin. It’s monstrous.

While all of this is happening:

Israeli police tried to force a Palestinian Muslim woman to remove her headscarf because it “matched the colors of the Palestinian flag”

And in Hebron, busloads of settlers have taken over a building and run towards it with sleeping mats, all from just today.

ID: Tweet one by Yara Alafandi @/ AfandiYara reads:  Israeli police forcing a Palestinian woman to take off her hijab because it’s the same colours as the Palestinian flag and you’re still arguing that Israel isn’t an apartheid state? #Shereen_Abu_Aqleh

Tweet two by disorientalist @/ princessmlokhia reads:  Colonizers in Hebron took the collective Palestinian mourning for Shireen as a chance to sieze a new building in the city. Look at them, bold and pathetic. When we say Israel is a settler-colony we mean it in the most literal sense.

RIP Shireen Abu Aqla

A magnificent funeral for the funeral of the body of the martyr Sherin Abu Aqla as she moves to the Zion cemetery to be buried beside her parents in the occupied Jerusalem

This funeral was attacked by occupation forces btw

palipunk:

I don’t know what to say that hasn’t already been said, another Palestinian has been murdered by the occupation, and one known by so many of us as a journalist on Al Jazeera - Shireen Abu Aqla cannot be forgotten, may she rest

honestly speechless

may the occupation and it’s evils come to an end, ya rabb

western news sources already calling this “clashes” as “violence broke out”

watch the video again.

what about any of this is a clash?

was it a clash when the sniper’s bullet hit her in the face? was it a clash when they shot at anyone trying to get to her as she lay in a pool of her own blood? was it a clash today, when they forced a young boy to take off his clothes in public and a young woman to take off her hijab while they filmed it? when they bombed a civilian’s home in jenin today? when soldiers shot grenades at civilians trying to hold a funeral? when they ripped a kuffiyeh off shireen abu aqla’s dead body?

how long will the world call genocide and ethnic cleansing a clash?
