NEW MAP: Europe 308: Council of Carnuntum (11 November 308) https://buff.ly/3BADGE0 Maximian and Maxentius soon had a falling out and in April 308 Maximian took refuge with Constantine, encouraging Domitius Alexander in Africa to also break with Maxentius. That year Diocletian came out of retirement and, at Carnuntum in November, met with Galerius and Maximian in an attempt to restore stability to the empire. They agreed to appoint Licinius as a new Augustus, to confirm Constantine and Maximinus Daza as Caesars, and for Maximian to step down. For a moment an unprecedented eight emperors ruled the Roman world, but even after Diocletian and Maximian returned to retirement, a still daunting six remained. #4thcentury #ancientrome #arthistory #constantinethegreat #constantinei #diocletian #galerius #cartografia #cartography #easternromanempire #europe #europeanhistory #historicalplace #history #historydegree #historylover #historymatters #historynerd #maps #roman #romanafrica #romancivilwar #tetrarchy #romanempire #romanhistory #romans #teachinghistory #welovemaps #westernromanempire #newmap (at Carnuntum)

NEW MAP: Europe 307: Galerius vs Maxentius (fall 307) https://buff.ly/3iibFZa Galerius rejected Maxentius’ claim to power in Rome and sent Severus to crush him in early 307. However, Maxentius’ father Maximian returned in support of his son and the two defeated Severus. Maximian then traveled to Gaul to secure the friendship of Constantine. While he was doing this, Galerius invaded Italy himself, but had to withdraw when he realized he could not capture Rome. #thirdcentury #ancientrome #constantinethegreat #constantine #constantinei #maxentius #galerius #europe #europeanhistory #gaul #historie #historyfacts #historygeek #historylesson #historylovers #historymajor #historymaker #mapping #maps #roman #romanafrica #romancivilwar #romancivilwars #romanempire #romanhistory #romanitaly #romans #westernromanempire #worldatlas #newmap (at Rome, Italy)

NEW MAP: Europe 298: Galerius’ invasion of Persia (late 298) https://buff.ly/3vBvi35 After his failure at Carrhae, Galerius gathered a stronger force and returned to face the Persians in Armenia. In 298 he surprised and decisively defeated Shah Narseh near Satala, capturing his wife, harem, treasury, and much of his court. Galerius then invaded Persia itself and captured the capital Ctesiphon. The following year, at the Peace of Nisibis, Narseh agreed to cede territory to the Romans and restore the Kingdom of Armenia. It would be another four decades before the two empires would fight again. #3rdcentury #ancientrome #ancientarmenia #easternromanempire #europe #europeanhistory #galerius #historia #historias #historicalatlas #historicalmaps #diocletian #histories #history #historyfacts #historyinthemaking #historylesson #historymajor #historymaker #ancientpersia #maps #roman #sasanian #sasanid #romanempire #romanhistory #tetrarchy #romans #worldhistory #newmap (at Satala)

andmaybegayer:

in The Forgotten City you can talk to a roman soldier who tells you “I hate feeling like my survival depends on the common sense of other people” to which one of your optional responses is “Yeah, I get it, I’ve lived through a pandemic.” and whoof.

I have my nitpicks about the game (which I can’t really discuss because spoilers), but it has a ton of great lines and I enjoy how the characters have a lot more depth than you’d typically expect from a video game’s supporting cast.
