A 44×32 cave map featuring a vast pool of acid for your player characters to avoid as they jump between narrow stone platforms… I began this cave map with the vague idea of “jumping puzzle.” I drew the central entry/exit tunnel and it’s to-and-fro walkway, and then branched left and right via the oddly-spaced stone pillars. Each jump is about 10 feet at maximum, feasible to most athletic characters with a good run-up – but where will they get their run up once should they hesitate atop a platform? Throw in some enemies to threaten opportunity attacks, tempt your players to stop and fight, and then watch them squirm when they don’t have space for that run-up. (Am I growing too evil?)
65 new assets and textures for building your own carved-stone dungeon.
This pack began as a “stone floor textures” pack, but after struggling to get that concept off the ground after weeks and weeks of side project work I went back to the drawing board. Drawing only floors turned out to be far too narrow to inspire me (squares just aren’t all that exciting!) and without inspiration the results were simply awful.
The solution was to work on something broader that I could immerse myself in, and that became a variety pack of walls, floors, doors, and all the other dungeon essentials. This way we get a little bit of everything – floors included – and I can take on a Part 2 when I come up with some more floor textures and wall styles!
Each asset snaps to a 300 or 70 DPI grid, and I’ve also put together some handy ribbon brushes for CSP. Big thanks to Hikaru for teaching me how to do so! There are Dungeondraft files in the pipeline too.
Can’t wait to see what you cook up with these. Have fun!
Today we’ve got a new article from Garm describing a hostile northern land and the honor-bound orcs who dwell there (heavily inspired by Viking culture). Plenty of new specially-made tokens from David too!
This article is a system-neutral worldbuilding supplement featuring fierce, honor-bound orcs hailing from a cold, hostile land. Does your world have room for such a place? We invite you to adapt it to your game, in pieces or in full!
To the north of a classical fantasy continent sits a cold, wind-swept peninsula. Snow-capped mountains and iron-rich bogs fill this place, leaving little arable land for farming. The people of this land are as hardy as they are strange, living their lives tied up in a web of honor, obligation and violence. This article is meant to illuminate these misunderstood northern peoples, their ways and their culture. I hope you enjoy it.
We hope that some of these new locations, NPCs, and tokens (thanks David!) might make it into your game. Have any additions, ideas, or comments? Please share them with us below!
A single oak tree stands upon on a 32×22 grassy hill. The locals call it by the simple name ‘Green Hill,’ and it is a favorite spot for picnics and weddings.
This is Rootyful‘s Green Hill, a simple but lovingly rendered grassy mound topped by a happy oak tree. This map and its variants are of simple everyday locations in the countryside, great for low-level adventures and suitable for any old setting … that isn’t post-apocalypse!
I especially like Rooty’s nighttime version, where the moonlight upon the grass is dappled by clouds in such a way that I can vividly imagine what the sky must look like.
This oak could be a landmark at the edge of town, the centerpiece to a city’s gardens, or a sacred elven way-tree. What popped into your mind when you first laid eyes upon it?
A huge 32×44 battle map of a tropical sea cave and a wrecked pirate ship. There’s treasure to be had… If you can overcome the scavengers.
Connor Johnston (of CocosTreasuryOfTokens) is the captain behind this map pack, carefully decorating the cliffs and beaches of this cave to bring you a wonderful self-contained encounter map.
Behind the shipwreck can be seen the firelight casting wicked shadows high upon the cave walls. Who might await your adventurers back there? Is it the pirates stranded by this misfortune? Looters, salvagers? And who knows what might be swimming about…
