NEW MAP: Europe 1813: Sixth Coalition (3 March 1813) https://buff.ly/3BI3Gxr In early 1813, in the wake of the collapse of Napoleon’s invasion of Russia, Russian forces swept into Prussia and the Duchy of Warsaw. In late February the Prussians secretly agreed to an alliance with Russia, but would not declare war on France until Berlin was liberated. A few days later Britain and Sweden also signed an alliance, marking the beginning of the Sixth Coalition against Napoleon. #1810s #1813 #19thcentury #regencyera #carta #cartografia #europe #europeanhistory #frenchempire #germanhistory #bonaparte #historian #historie #historyinthemaking #historylovers #historymaker #historymuseum #instahistory #maps #march #march3 #militaryhistory #napoleon #napoleonic #napoleonicwars #prussia #russianempire #britishhistory #newmap #russianhistory (at Stockholm, Sweden)

NEW MAP: Europe 302: Battle of Lingones (circa 302) https://buff.ly/35UsCDj Between 299 and 305 the Roman Empire went largely unthreatened by war, perhaps a testament to the general success of Diocletian’s reforms. One exception was in around 302, when an Alemannic raiding force almost captured Constantius at Lingones, deep within Gaul. However, Constantius soon defeated the invaders and drove them back across the Rhine, stabilizing that frontier as well. #thirdcentury #alemanni #ancientrome #germania #carta #constantine #europe #europeanhistory #gaul #historia #historie #histories #history #historydegree #historylover #historylovers #historymajor #ancientgaul #persianempire #mapmaking #maps #roman #romanemperor #romanempire #romanhistory #romans #ancientgermany #germanhistory #sarmatia #newmap (at Langres)

NEW MAP: Europe 1813: Battle of Leipzig (16 October 1813) https://buff.ly/3uWwzCp By October 1813 Russian, Prussian, Austrian, and Swedish armies were converging on the French in Saxony, prompting Napoleon to pull back to Leipzig. However, he was still severely outnumbered and, despite Napoleon’s generalship, the Allies decisively defeated the French in a four-day battle. #1810s #1813 #19thcentury #austrianempire #cartographer #cartographic #europe #europeanhistory #frenchempire #frenchmilitary #frenchhistory #germanhistory #heritage #historian #historicalatlas #history #historylesson #historymatters #historyteacher #map #maps #militaryhistory #napoleon #napoleonicwars #october #october16 #prussia #russianempire #saxony #newmap (at Leipzig, Germany)

This gold and platinum tiara is adorned with 367 diamonds and has been valued at about $1.31 million. Until late last month it was locked up in a cabinet in the throne room of the Badisches Landesmuesum in the city of Karlsruhe. On April 29 the museum discovered it had been stolen.

The tiara once belonged to Grand Duchess Hilda von Baden. She was married to Grand Duke Friedrich II, who ascended to the throne in 1907 and ruled over the territory of Baden. A statement from the Badisches Landesmuesum says that the headpiece may have been crafted for the occasion of Friedrich II’s coronation. The couple’s reign, however, was short-lived: Friedrich II was forced to abdicate in 1918, after Germany’s defeat in WWI.

Baden-Wuerttemberg criminal police said they are now looking for witnesses who may have seen something suspicious around the time of the theft.
