2017 has been a whirlwind year for me. Filled with so many wonderful things and some really hard things. God has answered some of my greatest prayers and I’m am so thankful. Through everything that has happened God has proven his faithfulness over and over. There are still a few days left in 2017, and I’m still excited to see what else God has in store. Try not to be so hasty to jump into next year, and trust God in his process even when it sucks. When I reflect on the hard things I’ve had to endure I am amazed by my future. I know that all these things are doing a greater work in me that is preparing for the wonderful plan God has for my life. Happy 2017 lovelies…never fear God is with you!

For the past few months this is something I’ve had to remind myself of every single day…. especially with so many unknown variables in my life. I mean how can I be sure of which way to go when I don’t even know the destination? And so I cling to the one who does. I’ve had to remind myself to take it one day at time…to trust that that my Father is guiding me even in the littlest details. That although the way ahead is unclear my God lives above the clouds. He has never left me …nor will he ever…and the depths of his love I will never reach. Psalm 139 says “O LORD, you have searched me [thoroughly] and have known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up [my entire life, everything I do]; You understand my thought from afar.” So I guess in the end it doesn’t matter so much where I’m going or how I’m getting there so long as he is with me. Lord help me to enjoy every day of this journey. In Jesus name amen.

I love this quote….but sadly rather than seeing my problems as an opportunity for growth so often I see them as a hindrance. Everyday I wake up with a list of all the things I wish God would change in my life. After working with children for a little while I’m still startled by how little some will know about God. I did not grow up in church and so I can relate and realize that I carried a lot of my misconceptions about God into my adulthood. It is such a blessing to share the gospel with people for the first time….to reveal the delightful loveliness of our selfless Savior. To allow them to taste and see that He alone is good. When their eyes truly see and their ears actually hear the Truth ….who then could refuse the love of God? The Bible says how beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news…I encourage you to share the Good News …believe it or not even in a America there are still people dying to hear about Jesus.

After being a Christian for awhile I can say one of my greatest temptations is to settle for what’s good …when it comes to my relationship with God and spending time with him …In the last few years I’ve pretty much mastered my daily habit of reading my bible, listening to at least 1 sermon, and praying throughout my day. Which is fine …but with it comes the temptation to settle and never pursue God more because what we have is already so good….Yet even with good my soul cries out for more….God this year I want more than good. Help me to break the mold of my routine, I want to know more of you, see more of you, feel more of you, I want real life encounters with you Daddy. Thank you for your relentless pursuit of my heart. “I have hidden your word in my heart…” Psalm 119:11
There’s a lot hidden in this heart of mine, and I sometimes wonder how God feels when He searches it and finds that most of what I’ve hidden is brokenness instead of the unwavering truth that I am beautifully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). In Psalm 119:11, “hidden” essentially means “treasured.” When we hide scripture in our hearts, we are treasuring it for later. A similar thing happens when we hide brokenness in our hearts. According to one dictionary, treasure (v.) means to “retain carefully or keep in store, as in the mind.” You see, treasuring something has less to do with inviting it in than it does with giving it a place at the table. By treasuring my brokenness above the truth of the Gospel, I am giving the enemy a safe place to threaten the victory I have in Christ. If X marks the spot, the enemy has been using it as target practice – and being shot at over and over is what has brought me to my knees in prayer.
This morning as I was stuck in CDC traffic, Matthew 11:30 came out of hiding. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. I’ve been meditating on these words ever since. After 23 years of hearing them, I finally understand why I feel so light after surrendering it all to Christ. When we lay our burdens at the foot of the cross, our yoke becomes easy and our burden becomes light – just like His. Each of us has a heavy cross to bear, but it doesn’t mean we can’t also have an easier yoke. Rewind two verses to Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” The Lord simply asks us to “come.” He doesn’t ask us to “come and,” as if there’s something else we have to do to receive rest besides be in his presence. Being in the presence of God is the only thing that will give us rest because unlike most things in our lives, a relationship with Him isn’t based on performance. The fact that this is the heart of God takes my breath away.
Choosing not to hide brokenness in your heart doesn’t mean you have to hide from it. It means you have the opportunity to give it to a Wonderful Counselor. A Mighty God. An Everlasting Father. And most of all, a Prince of Peace.
