I really love the colour inversion on these. I don’t know if it was intentional because I didn’t notice until I was halfway through the second sock, but if so that’s fantastic.

A late 2019 FO which had to be kept secret for a little while - a pair of socks for my housemate made with @lovehandyed’s wonderful Nessie colourway.

I believe this was a yarn dyed specifically for @lochnessknitfest, and was absolutely perfect for my housemate’s birthday present.
.
Note to self though: knitting socks in secret is not as fun as it seems. I ran super close to time with these, and almost resorted to giving one as a birthday present and saving the other for Christmas. Luckily it didn’t come to that!

2020 is the year I get over my fear of wearing knitted sweaters.

I’ve always felt kind of bad about my aversion to knitting sweaters. It just feels like a Thing Knitters Should Do, but several years of acute dysphoria and a general awareness that my body will change, dramatically, somehow, has made the prospect of putting a large amount of time into something that won’t last long and will probably make me feel bad… not a great idea.
.
The hormones have, more or less, made their changes (other than whatever it is they’re doing to my hairline), and I can’t put my life on hold for anything else. I’m tired of running from my dysphoria. 2020 is the year to beat it into submission, one stitch at a time.

December is a time for sock knitting, apparently. These ones are luckily for me.

The yarn is @kelpieknits’ Lochbroom, and I am completely in love with both the colours and the feel - this yarn is squishy and smooth and I just want to rub my face over it, but I know if I do I will poke an eye out. I may need to make myself a scarf out of this base some point soon.

I took my knitting for a walk and actually managed to find some quiet greenery in the park.

There’s been a lot of talk about accessibility while I’ve been away (by ‘away’ I do mean lurking), and while the fact that we *have* to talk about it isn’t great, the fact that the conversation is happening seems like a good one.
.
For now, I have removed the Ravelry link from my profile so that no one can click it and do themselves any harm. I’m looking into the best places to host my patterns elsewhere, so that they are still available to folks who are in danger from using Ravelry. I can do this relatively easily because I have, like, 4 patterns, but my sympathies for designers whose entire careers have pretty much been dumped due to inaccessibility.
.
As for the current financial discussion, I’ve only been witness to this second hand so I don’t want to accidentally strawman anyone. For the record I don’t think I’ve ever used the recommended yarn for a pattern for various reasons, and yarn subbing is a skill I am still not entirely competent at but there are things I can do to help. As a knitter, gauge swatches are helpful, as is thinking about what qualities the garment requires from the yarn, but none of these are super easy to grasp as a newbie.
.
That is why, as I designer, I always try to say 'you should use a yarn that has these qualities, and here is the yarn I used in the photos.’ It doesn’t fix everything, but hopefully it helps.
.

Have you ever had a project that you just want to end?

I like to always have a pair of socks on the needles - preferably some plain ones. They’re nice, mindless knitting to work away on in front of the TV, or while chatting to a friend. These ones though… the crimping on the yarn is really messing with my tension, even though I do like the finished texture. They take a bit too much concentration than I’d like, and my other sock needles currently have a pair of gloves on them, so my only choice is to get these finished.
.
But… ugh…. they’re taking so long… if I do this again I’m definitely skeining and washing the yarn before I reknit it.
