A late 2019 FO which had to be kept secret for a little while - a pair of socks for my housemate made with @lovehandyed’s wonderful Nessie colourway.

I believe this was a yarn dyed specifically for @lochnessknitfest, and was absolutely perfect for my housemate’s birthday present.
.
Note to self though: knitting socks in secret is not as fun as it seems. I ran super close to time with these, and almost resorted to giving one as a birthday present and saving the other for Christmas. Luckily it didn’t come to that!

2020 is the year I get over my fear of wearing knitted sweaters.

I’ve always felt kind of bad about my aversion to knitting sweaters. It just feels like a Thing Knitters Should Do, but several years of acute dysphoria and a general awareness that my body will change, dramatically, somehow, has made the prospect of putting a large amount of time into something that won’t last long and will probably make me feel bad… not a great idea.
.
The hormones have, more or less, made their changes (other than whatever it is they’re doing to my hairline), and I can’t put my life on hold for anything else. I’m tired of running from my dysphoria. 2020 is the year to beat it into submission, one stitch at a time.

December is a time for sock knitting, apparently. These ones are luckily for me.

The yarn is @kelpieknits’ Lochbroom, and I am completely in love with both the colours and the feel - this yarn is squishy and smooth and I just want to rub my face over it, but I know if I do I will poke an eye out. I may need to make myself a scarf out of this base some point soon.

I dug out this jumper today for a yarn-based job interview and got weirdly nostalgic.
I knit this jumper in my first year of university over the course of a summer far too hot to be using aran weight yarn, and it was my go-to hoodie for most of uni. I packed it away when I moved, wrongly believing that knitted sweaters cling to my chest in the wrong way. Then I abandoned it, too worried that I’d grown out of it.
It’s a bit short in the body, but otherwise it fits perfectly, and the hood is still the most drapey, best-fitting hood on any of my clothes. Not only have I re-found my winter fave, I’ve now got the sweater-bug.
Anyone got any good recommendation for men’s/unisex cabled sweaters? I think the bulk of the cables helps cover my chest.
(Pattern is Lichen from Rowan winter collection… ‘08 maybe? I added the hood, as the original had a shawl collar.)

If you’re not using your train journeys for impromptu photo shoots, what are you even doing?
Having two pairs on the needles is actually a pretty nice feeling, as it makes me less likely to get bored of either.
On the left I’m reknitting a failed sock I refused to acknowledge for about six years. On the right, a request from faeandfibre, who very kindly helped me find a third skein at lovehandyed’s stall this Saturday. It’s knitting up beautifully.

Opinion time.
There are a lot of incredible shawl patterns out there, snowy owl, treasure island, papillon, etc.
And I’m honestly kind of jealous.
Is there any rule out there that says men can’t wear shawls?
(Ok. Maybe not for me, but still.)
I mean, look at these.
Well.
Have officially burnt myself out with knitting.
Don’t know if it’s my parents demanding speed and perfection from everything.
My mom demanding things for people, or her sheer fucking stupidity about…well… literally everything.
My dad’s attitude about the fact I knit, or his “why make it when you can buy it” remarks to…every single thing I enjoy.(reloading, bullet casting, baking, knitting, etc.)
Or just me being stressed about something I have no reason to be stressed about.
Regardless.
If anyone has tips on working past burnout I’d appreciate it.
Otherwise, I’ll start posting about knitting again when I get back in the groove.
Maybe I’ll post the profiteroles I make in a few weeks. Who knows…
Still have to weave in ends and block(yay. ) But after that my part of the coal “Sword of Gryffindor mitts” is done.

I don’t know who needs to hear this- but if you can knit a mitten, you can knit a sweater. Ribbing, increases, and decreases- that’s all it takes, and maybe a little more time.
My mittens here were knit without a pattern using Plush Bulky Intergalactic with a Hologram detail and a size 9 needle.
