I took my knitting for a walk and actually managed to find some quiet greenery in the park.

There’s been a lot of talk about accessibility while I’ve been away (by ‘away’ I do mean lurking), and while the fact that we *have* to talk about it isn’t great, the fact that the conversation is happening seems like a good one.
.
For now, I have removed the Ravelry link from my profile so that no one can click it and do themselves any harm. I’m looking into the best places to host my patterns elsewhere, so that they are still available to folks who are in danger from using Ravelry. I can do this relatively easily because I have, like, 4 patterns, but my sympathies for designers whose entire careers have pretty much been dumped due to inaccessibility.
.
As for the current financial discussion, I’ve only been witness to this second hand so I don’t want to accidentally strawman anyone. For the record I don’t think I’ve ever used the recommended yarn for a pattern for various reasons, and yarn subbing is a skill I am still not entirely competent at but there are things I can do to help. As a knitter, gauge swatches are helpful, as is thinking about what qualities the garment requires from the yarn, but none of these are super easy to grasp as a newbie.
.
That is why, as I designer, I always try to say 'you should use a yarn that has these qualities, and here is the yarn I used in the photos.’ It doesn’t fix everything, but hopefully it helps.
.

Have you ever had a project that you just want to end?
.
I like to always have a pair of socks on the needles - preferably some plain ones. They’re nice, mindless knitting to work away on in front of the TV, or while chatting to a friend. These ones though… the crimping on the yarn is really messing with my tension, even though I do like the finished texture. They take a bit too much concentration than I’d like, and my other sock needles currently have a pair of gloves on them, so my only choice is to get these finished.
.
But… ugh…. they’re taking so long… if I do this again I’m definitely skeining and washing the yarn before I reknit it.

Following about two years, intervalled by singles and an EP, Wagakki Band comes back with a brand-new album. If you know the alternative metal band The Mad Capsule Markets, you definitely know Hiroshi Kyono, former vocalist of the band, who since the disbandment, has been working on a solo project, named Wagdug Futuristic Unity, which became quite popular on the West thanks to several collaborations with renowned metal musicians. Recently he came up with a new album, released under the name Kyono, which brings up a mixed style, hanging between electronic, hardcore, punk and rap metal, delivering energetic and powerful tracks to listen to all in one breath.

I am having a bit of an existential crisis today. I look at Ravelry and there are literally millions of knitting patterns. Does the knitting world really need any more from myself? My practical mind answers “no” but my heart says “yes!” simply because I love knitting so much. It’s not like I am going to stop knitting, or making up my own patterns since it is so much fun. And then there is yarn, just waiting to be played with, like this stunning trio from @countessablaze that I am going to wind up shortly to knit while I go travelling next week (I am so into greens and blues right now). So I guess I will stick with it for now and shut my inner doubter . If you have read this far, do you ever have doubts about what you do and how much use there is to it? What do you do about it?

I’ve been working on three new designs but unfortunately I can’t show any of them yet as they are not for me but a collaboration which I am very excited about! But I have just knitted a swatch in that pale lilac yarn for the first sweater design of mine. I knitted the swatch in three different needle sizes and unhappy about all of them . So going to undo this swatch and try it in yet another size to get the fabric I want, good thing this yarn is a joy to knit with. .

Today’s main achievements: managed to knit quite a bit on my shawl, despite ridiculous heat and bake a loaf of bread, that turned out so light with a crunchy crust thanks to the method by lovely Daki @ducklington.designs that she has written out step by step on her blog. Thank you so much for the recipe, Daki! My breads usually come out a bit dense but this one is perfect, even though I halved the recipe and didn’t have any wholemeal flour, (added 20g of wholegrain Rye flour for some natural yeasts to 480g of white bread flour). Any achievements to boast about, dear knitters? .

It doesn’t look like I made any progress on this shawl, does it, bit I did, in fact I finished it, blocked, didn’t like it, and frogged it . This is attempt N2. I messed up the rate of increases so the shape was all wrong. At least now I know what I am knitting hopefully I will finish it in no time!

When the day starts right - I bound off this shawl/scarf I made up on the go with @pehorka_official yarn I bought in Belarus and I am quite pleased with it. I then went for a walk through a meadow we have behind our house and picked some buttercups for a vase. Buttercups can be pretty invasive so thinning them out does other flowers good! Hope you are having a good Thursday too

I have just published the pattern for this shawl. I called it Summer Night shawl, not very original but I feel it is a fitting name. Sock yarn makes it light and somewhat cool to the touch yet warm and comforting if it slightly chilly outside. Oh and it is just £1 (plus VAT for some unfortunately ) until next Wednesday
