This week is a major turning point for me personally and professionally. For the last 2 years, I’ve been working hard to balance my job as a stage manager and my growing yarn-dyeing/knitwear design business. There have been many great triumphs (doing Set and Reset at Lincoln Center, launching my independent website) and hardships (getting robbed, illness/injury). All in all, it’s been a blessing. I decided earlier this year that this week of shows with Trisha Brown Dance Company at BAM would be my last major stage management gig. This week was meant to be a joyous retirement and celebration of my launch into full-time fiber work. My recent injury is slowing me down and my path is not feeling very clear right now. I know that the road ahead will be full of challenges. It’s scary but it’s time. Let’s see what the future holds. I really love the colour inversion on these. I don’t know if it was intentional because I didn’t notice until I was halfway through the second sock, but if so that’s fantastic.

A late 2019 FO which had to be kept secret for a little while - a pair of socks for my housemate made with @lovehandyed’s wonderful Nessie colourway.

I believe this was a yarn dyed specifically for @lochnessknitfest, and was absolutely perfect for my housemate’s birthday present.
.
Note to self though: knitting socks in secret is not as fun as it seems. I ran super close to time with these, and almost resorted to giving one as a birthday present and saving the other for Christmas. Luckily it didn’t come to that!

The yarn is @kelpieknits’ Lochbroom, and I am completely in love with both the colours and the feel - this yarn is squishy and smooth and I just want to rub my face over it, but I know if I do I will poke an eye out. I may need to make myself a scarf out of this base some point soon.

Have you ever had a project that you just want to end?
.
I like to always have a pair of socks on the needles - preferably some plain ones. They’re nice, mindless knitting to work away on in front of the TV, or while chatting to a friend. These ones though… the crimping on the yarn is really messing with my tension, even though I do like the finished texture. They take a bit too much concentration than I’d like, and my other sock needles currently have a pair of gloves on them, so my only choice is to get these finished.

But… ugh…. they’re taking so long… if I do this again I’m definitely skeining and washing the yarn before I reknit it.
