Pegasus but built like a pterosaur

Really fucked up bat

This is terrifying but i LOVE IT

it works so well HOW. the markings, the hoof on the wing, the short tail, the pink eye

Kind of a Jersey Devil

I actually had a hypothetical jersey devil concept but I envisioned it as a large winged leporid with shope papilloma virus. I should probably try making more shitty cryptid designs tbh

PhotographerAnn SophieLindström spent several months documenting  a group of horsemen in North Philadelphia who have been countering crime through their love for horses.  For more riveting photos of the equestrians of North Philly, here’s this week’s Spotlight essay from Emily Anne Epstein.

Guillermo Gonzalez was sent by his boss to Veracruz to measure some lands. He went by horse. Because it was very hot, he stopped to take a short rest by the river. He fell asleep and heard a voice in his dream that was calling him. He woke up and saw three crocodiles ready to attack him. He’s sure it was the Virgin of Guadalupe who warned him in his dream, and he thanks for saving him.

horses are inherently funny because they come in so many sizes. like draft horses

image

this looks so fake. this horses skull is bigger than the dudes entire torso. this horses NECK is thicker than the dudes entire BODY.

and then at the opposite end of the spectrum you have shit like this shetland pony which ALSO looks fake

image

what the hell happened to this thing who bred this line of ponies to be so ridiculous

fun fact, while most mini horses and ponies look fat, like the shetland above, some are genuinely just scaled down versions of regular horses

you look at this and think “wow that’s a horse i bet I could ride that” but you’d be wrong because this is an american shetty and it’s the size of a large dog

also fun fact, this is the world’s smallest horse, thumbelina

and this is the largest horse ever, brooklyn supreme

I would fucking die for Brooklyn Supreme

RIP Brando. Big love, chunky Mustang with draft somewhere in the genetics. I rode this horse every day after substitute teaching in the fall of 2007. Brando put up with all my shenanigans, including trying to do circus trick stands on his back while he was loping. He went through some rough patches with not-so-great owners, but spent the last decade of his life at the paradise that is Apachee Creek Ranch. I’m so lucky to have known such a lovable lug as Brando. He certainly made me a better rider and horse-listener.
