Inktober: Day 1 -

Hello guys! I am back after a long hiatus with some rough characters sketches that I’ve been working on for graphics! Since it’s one of my favourite times of the year, I thought I might join Inktober, especially since ink is my favourite medium! I know I cheated here by using some pencil as well as ink but shhhh!

It’s my good OC: Hölzerne Seele and this piece was commissioned by the lovely @mshy88 !! The story with this character is that: through tragic events, a young girl in green had lost hope in her life and decided to hang herself. Just before the weight was applied on the rope, the branch snapped before she died, causing her lower half to sink in a swamp near the forest. Her legs decomposed, causing them to become nutrition for a large tree nearby and as a result, she was trapped in the woods, unable to be free from the dark murky waters. Unfortunately, through starvation and unheard cries, the girl was no longer alive, yet her soul could not move on and rest because, being entwined with a living tree meant that she was forced to stay embedded in the soil of the earth. Through myth, some say that the girl realised that her life before wasn’t as bad as it seemed compared to the fate she was given afterwards. Such dismay and longing to go back caused Seele to physically tear out her eyes and plant them in the soil. That way, when they decomposed, her eyes became the thistle and weeds which peer in envy at any travellers who had the freedom of living. Some who may have had the misfortune of encountering her, mistake her with a wooden mermaid as the tree looks like the tail of one. And like a mermaid, Seele sings in desperation for somebody to be lured by her sweet song and finally set her free…

I’m back guys! Did you lot miss me? Well truth be told, I’ve got something to say…

These past couple of weeks that I’ve been gone, I have struggled to juggle a lot of my educational work. As some of you may know, I’m doing A-levels in both Physics and Maths (and graphics) so as you may also know:

These are courses you cannot joke around with.

I’ve been really tired from studying hard for these subjects and even though I’m finished for the year and I’m on summer holiday, I still have to study.
Unfortunately, this has had a massive impact of my artwork as little by little, I’m starting to not draw at all. It’s becoming tremendously hard to even gather some motivation to draw but what is worse is that, I am known in the artist community as somebody who illustrates in mass detail. My most recognised pieces are those with fine inking and they are my pride.

With less time on my hands now, I fear that I may not be able to produce pieces of that quality and if I do, it would seem like I am suddenly disappearing for weeks! Therefore, as my loyal followers and supporters, may I ask for one thing?

Please bear with me if I don’t post often… or at the very least, will you tolerate my messy sketches?

Because of my art platforms, I feel pressured to produce these fantastic pieces of art but truth be told, they can take months! I don’t want to lose myself and my creative flare and I feel like all this maths/physics is weighing on me on top of this pressure I’ve made for myself so forgive me if the quality of my artwork seems like it is decreasing, it’s just that I don’t have time or I no longer have the effort.

Perhaps it’ll be a phase but I’ll need to set the ball moving again before I create artwork like I used to.
