Well, I never planned on spending #NewYearseve in the #hospital with #pneumonia just finishing more

Well, I never planned on spending #NewYearseve in the #hospital with #pneumonia just finishing more tests. However, I’m OK with it because I know it’s where I need to be and the hospital is at full capacity and it’s not even midnight yet, so it’s a little crazy around here interesting from a #psychologyperspective, overwhelming from a #spiritualperspective, because there’s a lot of #spiritactivity with those still here who aren’t even aware. I also see it like this New Year’s eve night in the hospital will be the ending point of a difficult year and starting tomorrow things only keep moving forward and getting better. While I’ve been too sick to work while in the hospital I’m doing lots of observations and have different projects that I think will be incredible if executed properly still taking lots of notes and thinking #creatively which I love, In between vomiting and coughing of course, but it’s the ultimate release to bring about rejuvenation for 2019. I want to thank all my friends and #Clients Who are my extended family for continuing to believe in me and supporting Me along the way during this turbulent and #magical #journey. Thank you for all the support and encouragement along the way and here’s to a better and brighter 2019 with lots of amazing blessings yet to unfold I love you all happy new year! #justkeepswimming #nevergiveup #psychicinyourpocket

Swimming into the weekend week like…

This orange cirrate octopus was observed by MBARI’s ROV Doc Ricketts swimming over the Taney Seamounts. These finned octopuses belong to an order of animals called Cirrata named for the presence of hair-like structures called “cirri” on their arms which may aid these animals in capturing food. The Taney Seamounts are a linear, near mid-ocean ridge chain consisting of five volcanoes located on the Pacific plate 300 kilometers (nearly 200 miles) west of San Francisco, California. Seamounts formed adjacent to mid-ocean ridges are the most abundant on Earth, numbering several orders of magnitude higher than hotspot-related seamounts.

Swimming through Shrimp Week like…

This midwater shrimp (Eusergestes similis) is an agile, fast-swimming species that preys on krill and copepods. Eusergestes are an important food source for salmon, tuna, squid, and many other commercially valuable species. This individual was observed in Monterey Bay at 520 meters (1,700 feet) deep.

Monday moment of zen with the relaxing rhythm of our favorite gelatinous zooplankton. 〰️

Sit back and relax with these soothing jellies. From tiny, delicate drifters, to giant deep-sea denizens, jellies come in a variety of beautiful and mesmerizing forms. There are many different kinds of gelatinous animals in the deep, but here we are featuring the umbrella-shaped animals that swim by pulsing a bell and usually have tentacles trailing behind their mellow flowing movement. Most people underestimate the true diversity of this dazzling group of animals. Taxonomically, they are far more varied than a handful of the most common examples used to represent “jellyfish.”

Monday morning stroll with Saccopharynx.

MBARI has studied the deep waters of Monterey Bay and beyond for more than 30 years. In our thousands of dives to these dark depths, we’ve seen this species fewer than 10 times. But we were so enamored by this curious creature that we featured it in our logo.

See that massive mouth? Food is scarce in the deep sea, so a gulper eel’s oversized mouth helps it swallow any morsel of food—big or small—that it comes across. Scientists think the glowing tip of this eel’s sinewy body might act as a luminescent lure to attract unsuspecting prey, and then—gulp—it becomes dinner.

The midwater doesn’t offer any places to hide from hungry predators, so it’s eat or be eaten in these waters. Many fishes there have evolved inventive strategies for finding food, like sharp teeth, gaping jaws, and big bellies. MBARI scientists have been studying deep-sea food webs to better understand who’s eating whom. You can learn more about these curious creatures on our website.

Monday moment of zen with a little red jelly.

There are lots of little red jellies in the midnight zone, so many that it’s often difficult for researchers to tell them apart. MBARI scientists have spent years collecting and analyzing data to distinguish these species from one another based on their shape and form. In 2020, they developed a key to help scientists tell these look-alike species apart through their physical differences, depth distribution, and behavior. This little red jelly is Benthocodon pedunculatus, a species we often see bobbing just above the deep seafloor like little red UFOs.

And here it is, your Monday moment of zen. ✨

This rare glimpse of a juvenile king-of-the-salmon (Trachipterus altivelis) was captured on camera at 213 meters (about 700 feet) in Monterey Bay. Trachipterus are members of the ribbonfish group, aptly named for their thin, ribbon-like bodies. As these fish mature, they change dramatically from dark red to shiny silver and their frilled caudal and pelvic fins are greatly reduced. Because adult ribbonfishes spend most of their time in the ocean’s dark depths—generally around 900 meters or nearly 3,000 feet below the surface—sightings of this regal resident of the deep are uncommon.

My website turns 1yr tomorrow It’s not a bomb ass site with the best content and forever flowing traffic, but it’s something I’m proud to have developed after years of self doubt and procrastination. I’m still here sitting between the doubt and procrastination #tbh as I work on some new content to release in the morning (because it really isn’t all fun and easy), but hey… I’m really proud that, considering where I started, I’m at least still swimming # a whole year later.

Sometimes life feels as if you’re suck in the white wash and you’re getting pounded by set after set

Sometimes life feels as if you’re suck in the white wash and you’re getting pounded by set after set after set… it feels like the best you can do is keep your head above water and just keep paddling…

It’s been a tough week here at SSG HQ with most of the time spent in hospital looking after my partner who’s been injured in an accident and the rest looking after two worried kids.
While my arms are just so tired from the constant paddling and at times it’s felt like I just couldn’t breathe as another wave came crashing on my head, I’m finally making it out the back and have a chance to rest.

There are moments when we all feel like this. You’re not alone in this struggle. Often though you do need to take your eyes of the wave in front of you to look around see the people who are paddling right beside you, the people who are there for you every step of the way. It’s those people who make these times manageable and just having them by your side gives you the strength to keep paddling. Find your people and let them paddle beside you.

I am super tired. I came home from work and checked in with kids re homework and cleaned up a bit of my mess from show prep all weekend and then crashed out on my bed. But I’m about to get back up and go to Target for toilet paper and cat food and lunch meat, get myself some dinner while the girls get pizza with their dad, and work on some new designs. And do it all over again never weekend. Because that’s what I do. #justkeepswimming #atleastmyhairisstillfabulous

mbari-blog:

An ode to salps.

Salps are gelatinous invertebrates that live in the open ocean but are closely related to the “sea squirts” (tunicates) seen in tidepools. They are found abundantly throughout the world’s ocean.

This species, Cyclosalpa bakeri, can form aggregates like the one pictured. The distinctive radial whorls up to 20 centimeters in diameter with about 12 individual zooids make them easy to identify. Each zooid has a pair of posterior end projections. This species is one of the more commonly encountered salps off coastal California. They tend to rise to the surface at night while spending daylight hours in deeper water.
