Se suicidó esta mañana en su apartamento de Park Avenue, en Nueva York.

Kate Spade trabajo en la revista Mademoiselle, creo su propia marca de ropa y accesorios en los 90s.

La compañía, Kate Spade New York, cuenta con 140 tiendas minoristas en Estados Unidos y 175 a nivel internacional.

2005:Kate Spade lanzó la marca de moda "Frances Valentine“, la cual lleva el nombre de su hija. Posteriormente vendida a Liz Claiborne.
Coach compró los derechos de la marca “Kate Spade” en 2 mil 400 millones de dólares.

Dreaming of Kate Spade and Spring Flings

Sometimes the people we admire, those that appear to have everything, are facing battles mentally that are unfathomable. This touches me because I’m often guilty of thinking that cash is king; That the solution to every problem is to make more money; That as my income continues to increase, any made up problems in my head will undoubtedly fade away. Among the bags that sit on my shelves mostly unused, are three Kate Spade novelty bags that I adore. I look forward to walking in Kate Spade stores to see which novelty bag is new to the collection. I’m afraid now I won’t be able to step foot in one of these stores without being reminded of tragedy. Maybe I need to be reminded. Maybe it’s important to note that someone who had a wildly successful career (having sold to Neiman Marcus Group for $125M) and a seemingly perfect family (with a husband and business partner for 20+ years and a daughter whom I’m sure will miss her every day) still didn’t think her life was good enough. Happiness can’t be tied to things. Happiness comes from within and we each have to figure out what happiness means to us. “I simply remember my favourite things…”

Last year, I bought my first Kate Spade bag, with paycheque money from my first ‘real, grown-up’ job, as a birthday gift for myself. Candace is my personal symbol of adulthood and beauty, my first 'real, grown-up’ accessory. 

Candace travels with me almost every day, carrying heavy books and ziplocked breakfasts. She saw me through long days and first dates, accompanied me to new places, and sat on my best friend’s apartment floor countless times. Through spills and scrapes, she’s always been a comforting friend to hold – and has held many things for me. 

No matter the day, her palette brings me a little boost of confidence and joy. It’s touching to see so many others share their own stories about KS bags and clothing, and I’m glad we’re all commemorating the work of such an extraordinary designer. Thank you for all the sparkle you’ve brought to so many people. Please, let’s all remember to live colourfully. ♠️
