My Review of Julie and the Phantoms: Episode 2— Bright.

Last Sunday, I watched episode one of the popular musical comedy-drama Julie and the Phantoms to surprise my sister. I enjoyed the episode ‘Wake Up’ much more than I had anticipated— previously expected to find it bland and overrated.

Episode Two is about Julie attempting to convince her music teacher, Mrs Harrison, to let her join the music program after the deadline. As a subplot, the ghosts perform at a local beach to focus on their new ‘lives’, Ray reconsiders selling the house, and Carlos becomes interested in the orbs from the photographs. Julie performs Luke’s original song ‘Bright’ at the school’s spring rally after Carrie.

While I enjoyed the ghosts visibly performing alongside Julie, I am weary that this may cause some cringy future plot points. However I know that the writers do have a magical way of making the show flow gracefully from scene to scene.

Characters Flynn and Alex have also grew on my liking: Flynn is exceptionally supportive of her best friend, which I personally find is admirable and shows the true meaning of friendship (friends are there for the good and the bad); and Alex seems to be very considerate towards Julie, for example, when he asks about the music program.

I still am not fond of Carrie, who performs a cringy song (sorry, I know some of you think differently), sends Julie constant death glares, and acts ditsily after her performance. Yet, every good story has an unpredictable antagonist so I will let this slide.

The episode ends, like the first, with Julie performing a song. While this is effective as it is like a finale scene to the episode, it becomes expectable and therefore less interesting. I hope that the ordering changes in the future.

The last piece I made for @jatpzine! A Sunset Curve print. Everytime someone posted a story with their bundle and I saw this print among the merch, it made my heart grow three sizes bigger

Fridays are for comebacks and unrequested additions to preexisting mythologies.

(As I imagined, I won’t be able to draw all five intended parts of this AU, what with real life happening and interests changing. But I wanted to at least complete this 6-part section of the story, which has been so important to me for many reasons. If you’re still keeping up with this, I hope you’ll like it as much as I do.)

I don’t know why these songs have the same vibe to me, especially the beginning guitar intros.

Two Netflix premieres this month that used flowers in a great way throughout the storyline. Strangely also follows the lives of 2 young girls, and the flowers connected them to their moms.

4ever-shipping:

Tell me why after watching Julie and the Phantoms, I had the deep desire to watch Starstruck!

What are your fave songs from both soundtracks? Mine are,

For Starstruck: Starstruck, Hero, and Something About the Sunshine

For JATP: Bright, Great, Unsaid Emily, and Stand Tall.

Guys! I figured out the correlation. They both did like an outdoor performance from their house! In Starstruck he sang Hero. In JATP they sang Edge of Great.

bobbyischill:

if youve liked lemonade mouth, high school musical, andi mack, everything sucks!, hsmtmts, diary of a future president….

please watch julie and the phantoms!!! it’s such a good show. basically it’s about a teen band that died in 1995 and reappeared as ghosts in 2020. the only person who can see them is a girl named julie, who is an awesome musician, but hasn’t played music since her mom died.

pros of watching jatp:

  • its a fun show that tackles mature themes like death and loss
  • the main character is latina, her best friend is black, and there’s a lot of racial diversity sprinkled throughout the show
  • one of the band members is gay, he gets a love interest, and as a queer person, it is handled so well. there was no internalized homophobia, no repression, none of his friends were weird about it. it was such a refreshing change of pace.
  • the band is made up of three (3) himbos that share one (1) brain cell. they’re so stupid and i love them
  • it has a killer soundtrack. every song slaps, and i enjoy listening to the music separately from the show as well.
  • the actors are so talented. the first ep was a lil awkward, but they have great comedic timing, they all play the instruments their characters play, they wrote a song or two from the track.
  • supportive dad!!!❤️❤️
  • it was directed by kenny ortega, who also directed high school musical, descendants, ferris buellers day off, etc.

it’s just,,, so good and fun and emotional and pure. it’s rated G so kids can watch it, but i really think adults can enjoy it too. like, i’m 19, and it’s one of my favorite shows.

also, if we get enough people to watch it and stream the music, there’s more of a chance that it will get a s2 and netflix and other streaming services will make more shows like this.

Watch it y’all.

GUYSSSS

So Alex is 100% gay obviously

And if it was confirmed that him and Luke were together in the 90s

And there’s no way Reggie’s completely straight after that ~one~scene

NONE of Sunset Curve is heterosexual (except maybe Bobby)

That’s why it’s called Sunset Curve instead of Sunset Straight

had a dream that Dylan O’Brien and Tyler Blackburn were love interests in a show being directed by Kenny Ortega????

idk

but I’d watch it

Auli’i Cravalho singing How Far I’ll Go

Josh Groban singing You’ve Got a Friend In Me

Amber Riley singing Let It Go

Christina Aguilera singing Can You Feel the Love Tonight

Jordan Fisher singing Under the Sea

Tori Kelly singing Colors of the Wind

Donny Osmond singing I’ll Make a Man Out of You

(sadly if I could hear Josh Gad more, I would add him, Luke Evans, and Alan Menken to the list for Gaston)

and High School Musical Cast, HSM the Musical the Series cast, and Descendants cast, and Kenny Ortega (IN HIS HSM JACKET THAT I WANT) singing We’re All In This Together

…Thinkin’ about how there’s this one HSMTMTS behind the scenes video of like Kenny wishing Josh, Matt, Olivia, Larry, Dara, Julia, Frankie all them well with HSMTMTS and he mentions he’s working a new project.

I remember watching that at the time and being like “Neat that the original director of HSM is just wishing the cast luck with this new series under its name that’s nice to know. He supports it, he’s also doing his own stuff too that’s neat.”

…that “new project” was Jatp…

…hindsight is a weird thing kids

As most of you probably already know, JATP has been canceled. I‘m very sad about that, the show had so much potential, a huge fanbase, an enormous impact on older and younger watchers in so many ways, and million streams on show and music but Netflix decided against it. And I‘m not very optimistic that the show is gonna get picked up any time soon.

It has been a huge honor to be part of this amazing fandom on here. Every single clowngate was something special and funny in its own way, I think my all time favourite was the one where we all changed our Icons to sad clown-emojis, lol. I‘ve met so many amazing and talented people in the last 15 months, got recognised by ones I admire really much and even found mutuals. I never thought I would reach more than 5 people with my blog and now I‘ve got more than 400 amazing people following me and it still baffles me but also makes me really, really happy.

Every single Fantom did something for this fandom in their own way and we all can be very proud of that because that‘s why it‘s so special and unique.

Thank you all so much for the amazing time we had together it was an amazing era but now that it‘s over, it‘s time for me to go. Stay safe y‘all and hopefully we see each other again, maybe in another fandom where we can create many new and special memories! ♥️
